Recently purchased a 71 Roadrunner that originally came with a 440-6 but was converted to a 360. This is my first attempt to restore a Mopar so I will be asking a lot of questions and my intention is to change it all back again. I have a question, what distributor came with the 1971 440-6 motors. This has the factory tach, were they mechanical or electrical. single or dual point distributors? Reason I am asking is I have a chance to pick up a dual point distributor but don't know if I need one with a mechanical cable attachment. I haven't picked up the car yet and the PO doesn't know as the tach never worked. If its dual point/mechanical what is a good price for it?
thx

:welcome: aboard!

Any pictures of your RR?

71 V code, 4 speed. Wished it still had the original motor. Going to try to restore using period correct parts if possible.

Welcome to FBBO - I always call the site the MIT of the Internet. Someone will answer questions. I have a 440 - 6 with a tach that's electrical and used to run a dual point - but that wasn't factory. Factory was a single point.

Sweet. Nice find. Shame to have a 360 in that Big Block Brute. Can't answer your question, but I plan to go back to the vacuum-advance due to lots of highway driving. Welcome.

Welcome from MI. Looks like you have a good car to start with. Sorry to hear the original motor is gone and good luck with the restore and parts searching.

Thx guys, I found a 440 that supposedly was rebuild and the owners car caught fire so they had no need for the motor anymore. I also sourced the period correct 6 pack manifold and will be getting that this week. This car will be have that big block in it once again. I have also found a dual point distributor that came off another 71 440-6 so I'll probably wind up getting that. Just not sure if the dizzy needs to have one with a mechanical tach drive or if these V cars came with electric tachs. Wished I had the car here now and it would be easy to check but its still in AZ.

Congrats on the purchase

Great, thx. The dizzy that I was looking at did not have a tach drive so it will work for me, thx again.
