Suggestions: Bucket seats for a 72 Satellite

Looking to dump the factory bucket seats in my 1972 Plymouth Satellite and would like suggestions from those that have move to aftermarket or other Man/Model seats. Would perfer a sport model seat verses a luxury seat or something that would fall between the two. Don't want to get into power or anything too difficult to install.

I'd keep the org seats the after market seats look funny in th old cars arnt comfortable at all are a pain in the *** getting into some of them. Why are you thinking of doing this? Car looks like a street car ,if it was an auto cross car and that's it I'd say yeah go for it but the after market seats gerbils really quick. They look cool online and the price you can't beat but you get what you pay for my brother in law races scca and he's blown out 3 seats so far I started modifying them for him because those cheap seats are just that. Good luck with your decision. But if it was me the stocks would stay you could herbal real upholstery shop to re upholster them and add bolster.
Or look for new challenger seats or new charger seats

I've seen an article in a Mopar magazine that tells how to make the originals more comfortable (I have a copy I'm sure clipped), ones from O'Reilly Auto Parts that looked pretty good and the owner said they were great, and ones with Corbeau Seats that looked awesome and modern bolstered (I'd pick those over all).

Sebring convertible. The seat belt is built right in, so it saves another step.

I spent some time looking threw the salvage yards looking for something that would look good in a classic and found these 04 Stratus seats. I had them reupholstered with 2 pleats to give them a more period correct look, driver seat is 6 way power with lumbar support...... very comfy. For me I feel the factory seats are hard to beat quality wise and really cheap as well.

Thanks! I tried the backs out of the Stratus as well but they were way to narrow so I pulled the rear out of a Chrysler 300 (notice it's all Mopar LOL). I won't lie the rear seat was allot of work, 300's are front wheel drive meaning the lower cushion sits right on the flat floor so a frame had to be built to support the bottom. The back wasn't as bad, they fold down but because they were so tall a new frame had to be built and the center cut down so you can still see out the rear view mirror but I kept the full bucket height and head rest in tact. Quiet a bit of work but if you ask my kids they'll tell you it's quiet comfy with cup holders and shoulder belts.

Well I looked and looked and this is the best picture I could find I thought it was a bit more but I guess I'm wrong or the picture doesn't do it justice. This the the 71 340 4 speed gas monkey challenger that got the scat pac installed. If you watch the episode they go into the seats a lot on it maybe this will give you just enough with out defacing that beautiful car of yours .

Sorry if I seem pushy I just think old cars should stay old that's why we love them I hate when I see a old car with a new interior in it .I mean it is what it is you build it the way you want . I'm not a purist I like the resto mods but try to keep them as stock appearing as possible.
Good luck with your choice make sure you post pictures as you might do something I like and might follow in your foot steps

I agree that oem factory seats are high quality. The Coronet has a set of buckets from a 1988 FWD Daytona that was upside down in a junkyard in Pennsylvania. In the snow. Best move ever. I am ever increasingly distraught as they are wearing out. Put them in in 1989. Comfy. If you consider the Sebring convertible seats, research the electronics aspect of the cinching of the belt for air bag deployment.

Good point, look for seats that don't incorporate the cinch style seat belts right into them or ones that you can easily switch over. I'm using new Dodge Dart shoulder belts in the rear with new Dodge Ram latches (Darts are to short to reach threw the seat) and Summits universal shoulder belts for the front.

First of all, I love your ride. The 73 hood and the rear lip spoiler really changes the stance of the car. I looked at a bunch of different seats for my 72 as well and could never get past the oem style like the one in the legendary video. In the end, I could not find something I could redo within my skill set and the oem are very easy to reupholster. I know you are wanting to get a way from that and completely understand. I have been following Speed Freaks resto thread on his 69 charger and he is putting some viper seats into his and I thought those looked really cool. Not sure what he is doing for the frame rails but if you got them high enough, they would look really godo. Those Sebring seats in 747 mopar looks really slick too. I looked at late 70's cordoba seats but they were to sedanish for my tastes. There has got to be a way to make the oem buckets more comfortable.

Thanks, glad you like them. To answer your question, yes there's a way to make them more comfortable. Any upholstery shop can modify the foam to add side support or custom tailor them to your liking. The real problem is cost, upholstery shop's aren't cheap nor is buying the covers and foam to rebuild a set but junkyard seats can be had in perfect shape for under $100 (I paid $50.00 for my buckets). The only reason I had mine re-upohlstered was because they didn't match and I was able to barter with the shop.
