Evap-o-rust

I had stored some parts in a corner of my garage and somehow they got a little wet and has a substantial amount of rust ... substantial by Arizona standards anyways.

I went down and picked up some Evap-o-Rust and gave it a try ... I soaked the following items in a small tub for about 10 minutes and was amazed a how nice they came out.

Now if I could only find some Evap-o-Scorpions or Evap-o-IdiotDrivers or Evap-o-MyDebt or Evap-o-MyWorthessSon-in-law I would be even happier!

I picked it up at O'Reilly ... I bought a bunch cuz my 383 block & heads got attacked too.

I used 10 gallons of that stuff when I did my car and de-rusted everything from nuts and bolts to suspension to my drive shaft. A word of caution regarding Evapo-Rust ... if you are planning to dip your block like I did make sure you buy enough to submerge the entire block at one time. I put 20 gallons in a 55 gallon drum and dipped the front and rear halves separately. Now I have 4 nice vertical etch marks on 4 of my cylinder walls ... deep enough to catch a finger nail on.

The block had already been decked and bored .030 over .... pistons & rings purchased too.

Now I need to find a standard bore 383 locally and get the machine work done again. #&#@!%#^(*Q@# ... one step forward ... 3 steps back.

It's my own fault though for leaving the bare block in my garage without at least covering it up.

Evapo-Rust does not etch metal at all, it only eats rust, so, maybe there was some residue that was floating in your tank and dried to the areas on your block. If that is the case, should be easily removed or cleaned without impacting your bore.
