Which aftermarket shifter do you like best

I have never liked the ratchet style shifters. I never felt comfortable which gear I was in. My '66 Satellite came with a Megashifter. I replaced that with the B&M manual gate I had from the mid '80s' "Pro Stick", maybe? A clean gate for a manual valve body. But I'm an old school guy.

Never had any problems using a factory Slapstick but liked the 71 and newer vs the 70. Don't have a console? Not that hard to fab one for it. Don't know about now but they used to be cheap like in free. Used to hear many complain about them but all of mine worked fine and had several cars with them.

I have a Hurst Quarter Stick and it mounted easily without modifying my factory shifter mount brackets (69 road runner) other than drilling a couple holes. It is a solid shifter. I had a B & M Star shifter in the past and I liked it too.

I just got my second megashifter , bought the first one used . I use it with a manual shift reverse pattern valve body and it's street driven with some track time. Never missed a shift or had any problems. I do use a fire sleve to cover the cable as it runs close to the headers.

I'd like to add that my LEAST favorite shifter is the B&M z gate. Damn I hated that thing - an unending combinations of lifting, pushing and pulling seemed like each gear had its own unique move to get it to engage. I'd rather rig a cable and a pair of vice grips than use on me of those POS's again.

Well with everyone using the quicksilver I think thats what I'm going to go with. You guys have never steered me wrong, plus I just seen Jegs has a $50 rebate. Is there anything extra you need for a reverse vb? I know it says works with both patterns, I thought some required different shift plates I'm guessing being a ratchet it doesn't matter? The gear indicator will just be wrong?

It should come with a plate that is correct for the reverse vb.

It will come with an insert that is for reverse shift pattern too,
Mine did anyway... The one I got now, I bought mine 7+ years ago now

Thanks, I gave Jegs a call they said everythings in the box for forward and reverse.

Hurst quarter stick. Only thing I'd change it for is a 4 speed.

I really like the ProMatic as well. It's kind of like a bump stick. Very positive shifts with reverse manual. It is very safe in regards to lock outs for reverse and park. Looks similar to the QuickSilver and probably works the same?

Yes I used a modified '70 Slap Stick for reverse valve body for many years. Worked great & I won a lot of bracket races. Today I went back to my old B & M Pro Stick shifter. Not fancy, but works for me. Again the old stock slapstick worked great!

Since this is in the general forum and not the racers section I can respond, yeah for me! lmao

Believe it or not in the OE console is a Hurst Promatic V with a Pistol grip handle. Only mod was a small hole for the cable in the correct location, Yes the cable is double insulated with 2000° shielding and routed so it does not bind and I had to mod the console a small bit for the rear section to fit. as you can see it fits good and works good, I have a lot of fun with it.

Here's my favorite Custom made one of a kind for sure !! and yes it works Awesome !

Haha that's something like those lenco shifters? I'd imagine that is a real pain on the street lol. My buddy had an Allison in his truck that thing was a pain in town.
