Question for the experts...Did the 1968 Road Runner 383 come with a "383 Super Commando" Tin on the air cleaner...Or was it the "383 Road Runner Engine" ???
Thanks !!!
Thanks !!!
Correct. In 69 this engine then started wearing orange paint. I also agree that the red pie pan is for 68s as the change over I heard was in 69 sometime to the orange pie pans.Yeah the red is for 68's IIRC
the 383 HP 335hp engine was Chry. Blue too, not orange

I always heard that the HP 383 engines were street hemi orange and 335 horse. If you got A/C you got the 383 4 bbl 330 horse engine that was painted the turquoise. A good friend of mine has a 69 Charger SE that was built 3 days before mine and he has auto , a/c, cruise control, disc brakes, etc and he has the 383 4 bbl but his is painted turquoise and I think is rated at 330 horse. My 69 Charger that has the 383 HP engine that has 335 horse has no a/c and also has the 4 spd. I've heard that only the 4 spd cars got the 335 horse version of the 383 engine.A '69 non a/c 335 HP would be orange. An A/C car would still be turquoise.
There is a mid year change over in '69. The pie pan on my Nov 68 built car was red.

Cars without ac got the 335 hp auto or standard!!!
69 Super Bees and Road Runners did.
All other '69 B bodies, including Chargers, with auto got the 330 horse.
ANY 69 B body (Super Bee, Road Runner, Charger, Sport Satellite, Coronet 500, etc) with four speed got the orange 335 horse.
Thanks. Thats what I thought as I have some paperwork which says the same thing some place in my garage.69 Super Bees and Road Runners did.

The claim in the ads said the 383 Magnum had the HP 440 intake , heads , cam and IIRC exhaust manifolds...........................................MOThats a possibility. The other thing I heard was a slightly different grind on the cam, windage tray, and one other thing I can't recall now that were on HP engines vs. the non-HP engines.
