I have a question about the metal coils that go around the stock brake lines. Are these a must have, or just to protect the lines in critical areas?

For protection and they help bend it with out a bender

Shielding. I wouldn't say they are critical, but they prevent pinholes from rub wear . That being said when I replaced my brake lines I bought from inline tube and they came with the factory correct shielding.

Shielding. Question:whats that spring wrapped around some brake drums for?

I read somewhere a while back it they had something to do with harmonics. Don't know if that's factual or not.

Harmonics. There is a section of freeway near by that causes your tires to sing. Fairly loud. For about a half mile. Funny thing is I never hear the cars around me singing, just the car I'am in. Wonder if the guy who cut the grooves got fired? LOL.
