I am on the fence about a motor for my new project. I have a virgin 400 block that's cleaned magged and ready to be machined.. I love assembling engine and tinkering.. not an expert by any means. The Mopar stroker stuff is new to me there are so many combos that make my head spin lol.. I have a line on a 440 steel crank. Should I have it turned and go a 470 route or eagle has a rotating assembly for a 499.. 440 source stuff is out of the question due to the exchange and shipping and duty. Some of the eagle stuff is mediocre. And I have had some stuff that's really good.really would like to get the car into the 11's. The car will be about 3100 pounds when complete. Just looking for a good combo..heads will more than likely be in indy's. Roller camshaft..I Need some tips and pointers from the guru's..

I recently built one with the same block. I went 440source route. Easier and cheaper for me for sure. For me the cost was the same for all their kits. I would think that the cost would be the same or close to doing a stroker without the kit as well no matter what size. Personally, I would go as big as you can. I did the 512 kit. Wouldn't change a thing... Good luck with your quest..

cheapest and easiest is the 440 crank with 400 mains; a 450. shouldn't have any trouble doing 11's at 3100lbs. i'd do the trick flow stuff on top.

I'm assembling a 451 now. 400 block, .030 over, 440 steel crank, 440 rods, KB280-30 pistons, 452 heads, Hughes cam, lifters and springs. Working on a budget and shopped for the best prices all the parts. Hughes is a good source for info and lewtot184 always has good advice.

My buddy's cousin works at a crank grinding shop. I could get the crank ground very very reasonable.
That's why I was thinking the 470 route. Does the extra side clearance on the bbc rod cause any issues?

You can get pistons and rods easy for the 3.915 stroke, but you're cutting a factory crank a ways. Also - you have to cut down the counterweights .200" to clear the block if you're using a factory crank. IMO - easiesr and cheaper to buy a kit for it with the B wedge crank already set. A 400 will reach 11s with compression, good heads, and a roller cam. But longer stroke will do it easier and without the exotic parts. I built a 383 based 496 with ported Stealth heads a couple years ago that won stock appearing at Carlisle and just ran 117mph with 3.23s in a 3800lbs Challenger. He changed the exh manifolds to headers this spring and it's making close to 600/600 at the flywheel now with the small solid flat tappet.

Extra side clearance means nothing. Just make sure the oil clearances are right and the work is quality.

I built a 456 stroker for my Charger on the cheap.

1973 400 bored .060 (due to rusty bores).
1971 440 crank (did the lathe work myself for clearance).
1971 440 rods (resized, ARP bolts and floated pins).
452 heads (will support up to a .600" lift cam with the larger Ferra valves and port work).
KB HYP pistons @9.8:1

My build was built for a cruiser going big on cubes to avoid ringing the snot out of it, very reliable strong motor. Everything from parts to machine shop charges I've got about $4,500. There's a lot more ponies in the motor with a lumpy cam upgrade but for what I do I'm where I need to be rpm wise.

499 if it were me, they run strong and I'd be nor confident in the durability.

Stupid phone (more confident). Eagle stuff is ok, you gotta measure everything though on the cranks. They've gotten a lot better than what they use to be. With the right heads and cam at that weight 11's will be at 1/2 throttle with a 499.

Gonna run a roller shaft for sure. Not up to speed on the aftermarket mopar heads yet
Trying to seek out and research and get a good combo together. Any tips or hints will be appreciated lol

499, flat tops (you will want dish), 325 Indy-1's. Street roller bullet ground for me. 270 @ 050 .650 lift (1.6 rockers) on 110 lobe separation. Been 10'o at 136 with more left in it. I'd spec the cam slightly different if I did it again.

I just build a 512 for my rr with standard port Indy S/R's and a solid flat tappet. It runs like crazy too, gives up a little though to a Max wedge port when it's rev'ed up. I wanted to retain the 6 pack look.

I went with a 543 and I may have to run an

I gotta say that a 270 @.050 street roller spreads a smile clean across my face.
