The 1919 Boston Molasses Disaster, where a large tank containing over two million gallons of molasses collapsed and sent a 25 foot high wave at 35 miles per hour down the street. Nearby buildings were pushed off their foundations and the elevated train supports were damaged. 21 people and several horses were killed, about 150 people injured. This happened in January, the water in the harbor stayed brown until summertime.
