I finally have my 73 Dodge Charger running well it has a 400bb with a new 2 bbl I had a place down the street that specializes in working on carb cars do the work. I had headers and flow masters put on and found my advanced vacuum on my distributor was bad while doing the tune up. It has a hesitation when ever I stomp on the throttle but if I'm easy on it I don't feel it at all.I asked the manager about it his mechanic said the all the old cars have this.
Question 1 - I had this same car back in 1982-85 and never remember it doing this I'm I losing it at age 51 lol.
Question 2 -If this is true that other forum members have the same issue how do I fix this ? Question 3 - Do I go with a aftermarket distributor to get away from this ?
Any info or help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Sounds like carb may be running a little too lean. But before you mess with the carb......Check timing first, then advance, then accelerator pump and choke.

You didn't say if this happens cold or hot... We need more.

your carb should never hesitate, usually this would do it if the accelerator pump was worn a lot, timing should be advanced to spec or higher, a too retarted dist. setting would cause severe hesitation on any car. if it does this when it is cold then it could be the carb cant handle the cold temp, I had a holley carb that would work in any temp range, my carters don't do as well with the cold, a holley carb is far better and runs better in all conditions, yet they are harder to find new and rebuilt properly.

I just jetted down my primaries, because I had a serious bog, flooding out at WOT, but after doing this I still had a bit of a hesitation from idle to WOT, so after checking everything, I readjusted my idle mixture, and problem solved as it was running too lean. I mention this because a lot of people forget that the idle circuit is part of the low speed circuit and also part of throttle operation during early acceleration and if its out of whack it can cause problems when you go from idle to wide open throttle if its not adjusted/tuned properly. Just a thought!

The two barrel carbs were notorious for hesitation when the accelerator pump, piston seal goes bad. A neoprene replacement would be better, useing this unleaded fuel.
You can always look in the carb, not running, and see if the squirter has a good shot when pulling back on the throttle.
I'm trying to remember if the linkage is adjustable or not. That can help too.

This is a NEW 2BBL.
