thank you all for the welcome, I have no car or truck for this engine, im a machinist retired, and the last 2 projects where ford and chevy. also built the engine first then bought the car or truck. I was an apprentis auto mechanic at a Plymouth dealership in 1969 in the bay area. the previous year I bought a road runner hemi powered new in 68. 714 bucks extra! 4 speed car with a dana 60 3.55 sure grip. I believe it was around 3600.00 out the door. I was at a wrecking yard last winter, saw a 440 that ran sweet in a motorhome, I bought it! just the engine, no use for a butt hutt. i had a set of long cross rams on a 413 it sat so long the rust ate into the cyl walls. so now you know whats up. after the engine is done I will look for a host. as usual.

Thank you for this I have this info, and from what I can gather, cams with overlap or high duration wont work or if they do its marginal, I found an article on hemmings a guy with a 62 savoy used a real large lunati voo doo grind. and said it worked great. ive been doing this for 50 plus years, and more is not always better, ive ridden in a sonoramic car they idle smooth and pull hard, after reading the cam specs, on this car it couldn't idle smooth, high duration high lift and a ton of overlap on a 108 degree center line. there was one cam on that list with a 36 degree overlap that may be ok, but try to find the grind? I believe it was a crower cam. I tried to locate one but no luck. so what ive done now is email a few cam outfits, and ask for their opinions. hopefully I will get sum info on this. this week. THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YOUR RESPONCE TO MY QUEST.

those engines came with, by todays standards, pretty mild mech cams.

Dolmetsch from Ontario is an old timer, forgotten more about the b/rb than most of us know. reach out and message him, its a good bet. He is still on the forums there.

Many thanks to all, I talked with Jim at Racer Brown, but ordered a cam from Lunati, after an extensive discussion. I have used Lunati in the past. and they have been very supportive on any issues that have risen. Plus there Voo Doo series cams have have high vacumb and makes them quite streetable on smaller grinds.

thanx again

Got the cam the other day looked at the cam timing card, there were no over lap numbers, as far as I know reading everything I could get my hands on. they would work with an overlap between 33 and 46 degrees! I found a website, Wallace racing that had a ton of formulas, and was lucky to find one for over lap, punched in the numbers, and it was 37 degrees. so it should work. I have also found a host for the engine. 74 duster maybe demon haven't seen it yet. looked at my carter 3447,S and in the40 or50 yrs they sat, are bad, god knows what has crawled in an on them, found a snake skin ina box they where in, BAD OMEN!
THANKS AGAIN

good luck with your cam quest

Hello Everyone
I just found this thread. My Dad and I are attempting to install a 440 with long rams into his 1961 dodge dart. How did your project work out Hog ranch? Any specs on how to have the engine built would be great. Also looking for some of the small parts we are missing most of them.
