How come nobody really talks about goings-on in Antarctica?

mmissile's quote: "How come nobody really talks about goings-on in Antarctica?"

DUH!
Because it's summertime down there now...
It only gets interesting during their winter time...when it's cold and dangerous...!

(tee-hee-hee)

Only kidding mmissile!
Great question,
I do know the research facilities are pretty neat, lots of ancient ice samples etc.
"We'd" fly over McMurdo Station quite often.
I remember we'd have to declare our "origin of flight" to them as we entered their Air Space
We'd use the call sign: "Crested Rooster" which meant: Don't ask questions, we can go where we "please" kind of thingy, being a D.O.D airborne telemetry platform.
But: sometimes we'd request a Sat-Link back to Sunnyvale (Onizuka) CA because we couldn't reach them via or VHF or Sat-com.
We used to get wicked bad reception down there or "up there" which ever way you look at it.
The aurora australis or the southern lights were dramatically spectacular!

Ha Ha!
YEAH!
Right on Budnicks!

Funny thing is:
Right up to the "last minute" the Air Force thought Buzz was going to "take the walk first, but NASA said: WHOA, it's gonna be Neil
(Buzz was Air Force, military, Neil was NASA, never US Military)
All 3 of them were pioneers.
Poor Michael Collins, the Math genius (Air Force) that orbited the moon, he was remembered in the Jethro Tull song: "For Michael Collins, Jeffery and me"

Prayers for Buzz. When asked his thoughts while standing on the moon he replied" I am 250,000 miles from the nearest liquor store."

Google operation high jump, just after ww2 went for 6 months came home after 6 weeks claiming "nothing to see here ,move along "
