What's The Fastest Speed You Have Been

MY Pro-Gas 49 ford business coupe {actually a 51 with 49 Hood & grill}
went 180+ in the 1/4 no ballooning at all,
albeit 7 Dzus fasteners holding the hood down,
the fenders were OE steel, so was the hood...

I'm talking about the '57 style Fords that had the floating front fenders. The hood opened backwards, maybe that was the reason...

180 in a '49 would have been a grin!

It was because of the flat bottoms and hotrodders would lighten them up so much they were sails if the air got under them..

I love 57 Fairlanes! Homie Pete here has a 57 Skyline retract hardtop. A basket, but all there. I would like to have a Post model Fairlane or Ranchero.....Good looking cars IMO.

I've been 145mph in my 2001 Mustang Bullitt, on the Atlantic City Expressway between Exit 33 and Exit 28. The road was empty, and it was stupid, but I did it. I needed to see how fast it would go in 4th gear, as about a week later I auto-crossed it at Summit Point in Virginia, where I hit about 130-132 on the long straightaway before the hairpin turn.

I've also gone 140+ in a 2 seat dragster at Maple Grove, which was pretty cool. Here's the in car video of it.

Well, like some say, I'm not jumping out of a perfectly good aircraft. I've known a couple of guys that belonged to a skydiving club and they weren't crazy or stupid. Actually they were the last that you would think would do it. I guess they liked the "rush" and I get that. I'll get my rushes on the ground where gravity intended it to be. Lol
Khryslerkid we did not use perfect airplanes we used old cheap rebuilds we were going to jump out anyway we worried about the pilot getting back for the next jump. When I was 42 it was 16.50 for a jump (with your own gear and license) cheaper than golfing with my brother. I hope this made you laugh as it was intended. MERRY CHRISTMAS HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL

Fastest I have been on the ground:
  • Fastest with my current 70 Road Runner was driving across country: 107 MPH in Kansas. It was actually very controlled and comfortable - only issue were buffeting cross winds that bounced us sideways a bit.
  • With my 73 Road Runner: 110 MPH near Centralia, PA around 1984. It was floating and not very stable - kind of scary!
  • Fastest in any car was on the German autobahn driving a Saab 900 Turbo in 1982: 130 MPH. We drove from near Geneva Switzerland to Sweden, so we drove through all of Germany. Sustained speeds were in the 110 MPH range. We got a flat on a smaller road and the Germans refused to patch it - said on the autobahn that would not be safe, so we had to buy another tire. I remember at a gas stop I was curious and laid my hand on a tire and almost burned my hand!
  • Fastest Overall: On a train about a month ago in South Korea on a business trip, I saw 172 MPH. They are actually designed to go up to about 190 MPH, but I never saw a speed that fast (but wasn't looking most of the time either). At 170 MPH, you could easily have a full cup of coffee on a tray table and not spill it - amazing!

DeLorean, 1985
88 mph, things got fuzzy, now it's 2016?

Or was that the Valiant?
Is it really 2016?

I agree. The Saab 900 Turbo was a great car to drive. For the time, it had good power, and it handled and drove really well. It also had an interesting "burble" from the exhaust - don't really know how to describe it. I have fond memories of driving it...

Late 80's I was driving my Friends on Fwy doing 120 when a car ahead in right lane changed lanes dead in front of me for no reason, nothing in front of Him.....soon as i got into brakes, I relaxed,. no lock up, & dead straight......the acid test.

Way cool Petieg. Koodos to mom for a way cool FD present.:steering:

I had my hellcat at 160. The car was new and I was driving it home across country from the dealer.
It was South Dakota. The interstate was empty. I was in fifth gear making 585 hp (by the on board indicator). The car was pulling hard in fifth gear (kinda like getting off the runway in a jet) and the four lane freeway seemed to narrow in my view for some reason.----Reason--that is the word that made me back out.--New car--cop radar?--stuff happening real fast--**** sphincter trying to grab my throat--
I whimped out that time. But knowing the car much better now I'm ready to see the top end. Hmm just where can this happen?

Around here I would be as worried about a deer as a cop. Only a few places with a straightaway that's 5 or more miles with no turns or busy stops ignore.

Maybe Kansas

I know all about deer. I hit one with my 09 srt challenger when the car had 600 miles on it. The fix bill was $7500.
The nearest straighaway to me is 30+ miles away and would only be quiet for about an hour on early sunday mornings.
