I could use some help picking a carb for this combination.

Car: '65 Satellite 2dr
Engine: 360, 10:1, OEM head w/ 2.02,1.60 valves
Intake: Performer Rpm Air Gap
Cam: Duration 284/291, Lift .484/.484, 108Ls
Trans: A904, stock converter
Gear: Factory (not even sure what's in there)

So, from what I've read.. A vacuum secondary is what would work best for me considering vehicle weight and the automatic transmission. Is that safe to say?

A holley 650 double pumper was on this motor in an A body when I bought it and it ran great. that car was a manual trans.

I've been trying to decide on a carb for a few days and haven't made a ton of progress, so I'm asking here.

I've had Holley's in the past and I'd like to stick with that brand, so lets not turn this into a battle of the brands. I'm asking for help on what I should be looking for in a carb for this particular combination. Also, if anyone has any insight on what I should be running for throttle cable and downshift rod bracketry/adapters, etc. I'd appreciate it.

Thank you!

Holley 600 4 barrel. Great carb, simple to tune. Single inlet simplifies the installation.

Read the reviews and compare them to any other carb on the market at its price range or even above. I have installed many, I am not sure it gets any easier, I have to say its a super carb, if your not racing and the car is a driver, you wont regret it.

I'd "ball park guess" a 650 for that motor, but man-o-man those double pumpers kill your gas mileage on a street car. I swapped carbs on my 440 many years ago and measured my mileage.
- 650 double pumper 6mpg city/8mpg hwy
- 750 vac. secondary 8mpg city/10 mpg hwy
- Six pack 10mpg city/12 mpg hwy

It's one car and one test, but I saw a trend on my motor for sure. At the time I was a little surprised that the 750 vac. secondary gave noticeably better mileage than the 650 double pumper.

A 4-spd & a lot of track time.....650 double pumper all day long. Street car w/automatic.....vac. secondary in my opinion.

For inexpensive Holley vacuum secondaries, your main two choices are 600cfm and 750cfm.... so I'd vote for 600cfm small block street cars and 750cfm for big block street cars. Just my 2-cents.

the AFB/AVS's will up the mileage even more.

With what Lewtot said?
I do t think he was and I agree.
But he wants a Holley and IMO the 650 should go back on top. He could go up to a 750 if he wanted to. But I see no reason to spend the money for 10 more HP.

Yeah, I want to go Holley. The guy I bought the motor from kept his carb. I went for a ride in the car before we pulled the motor, it ran great, but it was a manual trans in an A body car so, I don't think that exact carb he had would suit my automatic B body car.

It's looking like 650 is a good size compromise of power/drivability and also the vacuum secondary might suit my automatic car better.

What else should I look for in a carb?

Thanks for all the help/opinions guys!
