Hello! I have been acquiring parts for my 68 gtx since I got it in 2001 and am finally ready to build it. I have just recieved a 5.7 gen3 hemi out of a 2006 ram and have all that goes with it(wiring ecu radiator trans cooler tranny sensors exhaust). Im trying to figure out what are soem of the better companies for the products that i will ned to swap it in my b body.

The biggest issue I feel i need help with is understanding my computer options, can i use the factory ecu or do i need an after market tuning system? Can I use a piggy back sustem on the factory one or is a total replacement ecu and ignition setup mandatory? My goal is to get at least like 450hp and hopefully matching tq #'s in the end with it n/a. Probably do headers, maybe intake for sure cam it and port the heads im at a mile high in elevatoin so might need a little more being the older gen3 hemi.

What does everyone think for the tranny if I want to drive the helll out of it? I have the five speed in my jeep and really like it but I also like the old three speeds. Can anyone tell me what the difference will realy be for a driver, obvioulsy guessing i will get the better mileage with the five speed too, I should mention more what im questioning is will the 545 5 speed hold up to the power(450hp) i want to get and what is the limit with that tranny? I knw i can get a 904/727 built up pretty cheap too.

And anything you guys who have done this wish you had known in the beginning as far as this swap goes, I really dont know much about putting these motors in older cars at all so am all ears on advice, Thanks again!

I saw an 87 Chrysler conquest recently with a 5.7l swap (to replace 4 cylinder) it was really nice. He used a 727, it bolts right up to the gen 3 just need to use a different torque converter. That would be the easy way to go.

No need to use a different TC. Just a different Flex plate or modify Hemi plate.
Here`s my 5.7 with 727, stock ECU, modified Hemi wiring.
