I'd like to raise the tail of my 67 gtx by an inch or so, but I don't want air shocks and I don't care for the look of old school hot rod shackles. Has anyone looked into using a shackle from a different year or body mopar to keep a stock look but lift the tail?
The center to center on the factory shackle is 3 1/2 inches. The spring width is 2 1/2 inches. The shackle fixed bolts are 9/16 of an inch. Any ideas?

I took a set of old school ones and just cut off what was not needed, never notice them.

Measure the thickness of the shackle plates and get a chunk of steel the same. Draw out a set that are the length you need. Cut them out, clean them up, drill four holes and bolt them on. Paint 'em up first.

I've built a few sets of longer shackles that worked fine. 1 1/2" wide x 1/4" thick. 1 1/2 to 2" longer than stock gets you roughly 1" raise over the tire. I didn't notice any bad drivability issues.

Yup, you just want to be sure to get the right thickness steel so you don't have any twisting/bending issues.

You can get a pair of "add a leaf" lifts from Summit Racing for about $39. They are essentially half leafs that will fit right on your existing leaf springs. They don't show - and are easy to install. I bought them for my GTX and lifted my car between 1" and 2". Piece a cake. Call Summit.
