So the summer has finally arrived I ripped out the trans replaced a few seals and gaskets, going to redo the zbar setup and linkage , this is going great. Think I will replace the clutch too why not It only makes sense. What could be easier than ordering a few parts for my Made in the USA BB 383 muscle car. So the question is, why have I been stiffed by summit and so many others for over a month waiting for a clutch setup for my simple build. Everyone says sure we got that 2 weeks 4 weeks, well no we called the vendor they dont make that anymore, no we dont stock that , no we cant get that. Every web site say they have these parts, which is bull, no one has anything, they just order it from the manufacturer. Ok Im done now....

I had a Hayes street/strip which has done me well for over 30 years. Thanks for wasting a month of my time summit, Yearone,Classic, etc they don't have any. I want another borg/beck style but these seem to be going the way of the dinosaur apparently. Hayes I dont know if they even exist anymore, Mcleod/Ram , I cant even find an 11" 23 spline diaphragm setup for a BB mopar. What is going on? What are you BB mopar guys doing for clutches these dayz. I had an easier time finding my Bendix 4 piston disc brakes, then finding a clutch. Any Suggestions?

Went to Napa and bought an over the counter clutch. 10 years of not an easy life. Good performance.

There are so many folks using the Centerforce that they have crowded out the others? I don't know the cost comparisons, but I can certainly see why Centerforce is so highly recommended. I have a CF dual friction...............................MO

68, look at BREWERS web site. I have a mcloud 10 and 7/8" with the GM type pressure plate on one of my cars and it has been a great setup and we run the sh$t ouy of it.

Did you try South Bend Clutch? They sell new clutches ( not sure if they carry bb mopar)and can rebuild yours. I sent them a clutch for a old better 83 dodge truck and they rebuilt it. The tech guy said everything was USA made except the friction material. He said no ones friction material is USA made due to EPA regulations and they turned it around it like a week, if I remember right it cost me $265.00 and it was a Borg and Beck 11''. It was also a upgraded to hold more torque and power over stock. They build a lot of clutches for cummins trucks with high torque.

Trying hard to think what could be easier. Just one call to Wayne at Brewers Performance, and you got what you need for your Mopar at your door a few days later. 937-947-4416

I second those suggestions. They know their stuff and will have it in stock!

Hey Thanks guys, All good Ideas, Funny thing is I put a few more hours after my rant friday night and did more research and picked up what I needed the next day. I have been to brewers, mancini, year one of course too, they all have the right stuff. Yearone knows what fits a mopar, Summit does not. I didnt know who RAM was at all at first and wanted hays because I knew it was good, Mcleod too for that matter although Mcleod was all diaphragm setups. Just for FYI the Hays story is an interesting one. Buying selling companies, long story short Mr gasket remember them?, Buys Hays and a bunch of others , Holley buys Mr Gasket and ends up with Hays,Mr Gasket, Accel, MSD and on and on but they keep using the brand names. Bill Hays starts Centeforce Co. RAM is a Small USA CO, both kicking Holley/Hayes to the curb as Holley fails to deliver hays clutches as they try to outsource the clutches to god only knows where as they destroy the brand.

I heard good things about RAM from a few sources and picked up an RAM 88768HDX borg n beck from my local speed shop. I called SK speed in NY, they had them in stock and walked out with the kit. No nonsense no waiting no BS from any web site done deal. Yearone has these listed for B bodies as well 1 inch input 23 spline BnB. Some one mentioned the 88768 here, The HDX is more than the standard duty clutch. I want to be able to dump the clutch without thinking about any issues so went with it. 2200lbs were mostly stock, these are 2800lbs and don't know what my hays was. Hope its not much harder on the leg. But anyway thanks again, Im waiting for a new input shaft cover for the trans to come in because mine was kinda worn from the throwout bering wobbling around so this should be going back together very soon , cant wait, new accurate exhaust going in too, should be a blast....

Yeah by they way I did check into getting it rebuilt, My machine shop dosent do it and said you can try to get it done but not many people doing that anymore. I will not throw out my hays, I may have to have it rebuilt some day who knows.

I got a sour taste for Hays when I bought a new flywheel from them and it was so warped out of the box I had to have it machined before I could use it. That was a few years ago now - don't know if things have changed with them or no. I do like McLeod - I have two cars with their clutches - but not Mopars.

Yea see they have been outsourcing this stuff for a many years now, there is no QC going on and its made like garbage now. I bought a cheap throwout bearing about 20 years ago. I snapped the Bering collar right off of it. Bought a trans mount for the A833 from summit "pioneer brand" the mount screw was set in side ways. Now how long do you think that will last before it splits right out of the "rubber" mount from stress. I will keep my old one and chuck this one in the garbage where it belongs.

Not ready to drive yet.... Trans went in yesterday

So I just wanted to add the RAM clutch kit hooks up nice. Car smokes the 60s in 2nd and gets side ways with ease. @ 2800lbs it takes more pressure than I would have liked for everyday driving, but I don't drive my car everyday so not a show stopper. Seems like it wants to grab a bit faster than my Hays street/strip or maybe because the Hays was 30 years old and soaked with oil. It was a long time ago and I don't remember what is was like when it was new, Anyway big improvement.
