Hey peak, they are called taypered axles. They were discontinued in late 1964. Most '65s have the flanged axle but on a rare occasion a early '65 might have one.
So if you research "mopar taypered axle" you will find some info.

I haven't gotten to this part of my 1962 Dodge project yet but I want to keep this housing in my car because of it's narrow measurement. Yes you can replace this rear with the newer flange type axles but they are a bit wider in overall lenth. About 5/8" on both ends. They will work but it will set the wheels out that much. A different offset in the wheels will give you the wheel well clearance but I personally don't like the look of the wheel with the centers sitting that far out in the rim.
I have a 2.92 open gear in the housing now and want to changet over to a 3.23 limited slip that I bought. The axles are different lengths between the open rear and the limited slip on the taypered axle housings. The limited slip axles are shorter.
I want to convert to a flanged axle with green bearings, which you would probably have to do with a disk brake setup. I might have to have the axles made to the correct lenth. I'm sure this has been done but it's been a big secret over the years that I've been researching this change. Nobody's talking!
I'm thinking Moser or Dr.Diff will know the answers that I'm looking for but I haven't contacted them yet. I'll be following this thread. Also feel free to contact me with any questions or on what you find.
