Hello! I am new to this forum so I will start by apologizing up front if I do something incorrectly. I am currently restoring my 69 Charger R/T that I have had for quite awhile. I am making some upgrades for comfort and safety along the way. One such upgrade is converting the current manual drum/drum setup to a power disc/drum setup. I thought about the salvage yard route but do not want to go that route for various reasons. I don't have a ton of money to spend on this upgrade but want something descent. I have found a brake kit that MBM Brakes makes and you can buy it through Pirate Jacks (http://www.piratejack.net/index.php...category_id=49&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=6) that seems to be good, but wanted to know if anyone has had any experiences with these kits. Thanks in advance for any input!

First of all, welcome to the forum. Post pictures when you can. We love car **** :)

Regarding to the kit you want. IMOP I dont like that kit because if my memory serves me right, thats a GM booster with that. I would want to keep my brakes Mopar. Therefore, you can purchase the spindles from a few different sources such as drdiff.com, theramman, etc and go to the parts store and buy rotors, calipers, etc. Or "The ram man" has a kit thats all Mopar. Google his name and he is on here as well.

I can go on and on and on but hopefully, you get the idea here. Let us know what you come up with. Many members here willing to help and very knowledegable.

Try Right Stuff Detailing. Their kits are affordable and based on MoPar stuff. Mine is on the way. You can get them direct or from Summit or Jeg's. Jeg's used to sell them as teir house brand.

Just something to Mull over we offer two types of conversion kits for your Mopars. One is $699 but that comes with the booster and master but they not a factory looking one.

Here is the link: http://www.p-s-t.com/s.nl/it.A/id.7983/.f?sc=12

Or we have our Mopar looking Disc conversion that includes the factory looking booster and master for $1059

Here is the link for the mopar stlye kit: http://www.p-s-t.com/s.nl/it.A/id.9663/.f?sc=12

Also being a member here you get an additional 10% OFF and free shipping.

Thanks

Just my 2 cents, I would go with what James from PST says up there ^^^^^. Look all around the suspension forum. His participation tells you that you're gonna get great service after the sale. Their prices are reasonable too. And no GM junk on your cool Mopar. Post pics of your car or we're gonna get the damned torches and pitchforks and run you off.

Try MBM brake they make parts for all these companies and also now are offering exact reproduction mopar brake booster. many times they have 50% off specials on their Pirate jack web site.

Well I appreciate all of the input and after a lot of diliberation (and consulting my pocket book), I do agree and do not want the GM stuff on my Mopar!!!!! I am going to do more discussions with James at PST to get a better understanding of what they offer versus the Pirate Jack's offering of the same type of brake booster (http://www.piratejack.net/index.php?page=shop.browse&category_id=49&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=6). Has anyone did some comparisons? Well, it has been suggested that if I do not submit pics of my project I would basically be subjected to a witch hunt..... so here you go! Hopefully sometime this summer I will have it up and driving! Then I can post more! In Order... Preparing for bodyshop, stripped all paint, checking for fit and hidden rust, paying attention to detail including body lines, etc...... Thanks again for everyones assistance!!!

Keep us posted on the brake situation. I am in the same boat as you wanting to convert but using all Mopar parts on the car. And also if something needs replacing down the road, what replacements do we need.

I did end up ordering from Pirate Jacks eBay site the following: Mopar Prop Valve for Disc Drum 1960's-70's #PV6070MOP (eBay #200888965411), 1966-1969 Mopar Bendix Style B Body Brake Booster, Mopar Master Cylinder & Plate #BCK8536-1 (eBay #160954268185) & MOPAR 1962-72 B Body High Performance Front Disc Brake Conversion Kit #DBK6272LX (eBay #200873836288). The Pirate Jack's rep pointed me to the 1966-1969 Mopar Disc Brake Kit B & E Body Brake Booster Master High Performance (eBay #160970432007) kit, but in reviewing the kit, I could save another $100 ordering separate. I also talked with James from PST and basically confirmed that the kits were the same, but PST offered 16 more days on a return and lifetime limited warranty versus Pirate Jack's 1 year. PST did offer the drilled/slotted rotors for an additional $79, but did not say if he offered a SS braided hose like the PJ's did. Hope I don't regret my decision.

I had a very bad experience with MBM brakes. I purchased a kit from them and had to go through a Canadian distributor which was OK, but the trouble I had with regard to wrong parts and things not fitting was atrocious. The bearing in my package were wrong, they were for a chevy and not my Roadrunner, it was easier for me to buy new bearing than to get them to replace them. I received the plate that bolts up to the fire wall and the brake booster and it was wrong, got a new one and it wouldn’t fit either, had to increase the size of the hole in my fire wall. The proportioning valve needed work to fit into my front frame rails as it had a screw with no head on it, which is for e bodies as it fits through the inner fender and requires a nut to secure, with the 69 b-body it requires a screw to thread into the frame rail. The above mentioned bearings showed up in the bag of nuts, bolts and hardware not in a separate package but mixed in with everything else, that really surprised me. There are other things as well, but I cleaned out my pictures from my computer recently and no longer have reference pictures to assist in jogging my memory. I like the change over from front drums to discs, but I would never use MBM again, just my opinion. This job should have taken a few days to complete, but actually took about 4-5 weeks as I had to stop and wait for parts to arrive to finish off the job. I was very frustrated with MBM.

Here it is 2017! Pirate Jacks... I gotta say, we are having problems with correct parts that we never had when buying from Just Right... among other wrong parts received and returned to get the correct parts, we received MBM MC-5621 a master cylinder (with removeable rubber boot) on the male end of a brass colored plate holding the master cylinder internals under pressure - Pirate Jacks says this unit is interchangeable and instructs us to unbolt that plate! we show the brass colored plate in photos swivelled and we see no lock washer holding everything if I remove that plate... I wanted to ask... someone... What will happen if I unbolt that brass plate to install the master cylinder to the booster minus plate? RE: part number MBM MC-5621, a master cylinder supplied with kit DBK6272 using BCK8536-1 booster/master cylinder build for 1968 B body? This unit does not have a lock washer holding the internals like we are used to seeing supplied... Thanks. (I think it will implode, rending it useless?)

That piece on the master is for manual brakes. I just changed my Master cylinder and it had a tear drop washer on one bolt to hold the pistons in. Good luck I'm also interested in disks for the front but already have power drakes. Following!

Updates! Super unhappy. Our shop was confused by this male brass plate, the same one that Pirate Jacks said to remove. In our history (3 decades) we've never seen this to be true, but low and behold! TRUE, according to Pirate Jacks returns department. Attaching a photo here of how Pirate Jacks helped us. This 17 pound parcel (a return to us of our returned product) box came apart somewhere in the travels, product lids are smashed, both of them... Not the end of the world... Will get those somewhere else. We instructed Pirate Jacks that someone in the returns department needs to be fired. They received our two individually packaged, double walled boxes, insured and sent priority (over $80 paid by the office so the items could arrive in excellent shape so they could easily resell the product we returned) then removed the brass plates, threw these same units in one thin walled priority box and sent it back to NAMC. Wow. Just..... Wow. "Just Right Brakes" from now on. ~peace out!

That sure is sad, the piston looks like it's coming out too. On power brake Master cylinders a tear drop shaped washer holds the piston in. The closest thing I can use to describe the washer is the marker used by google maps to pinpoint locations on the map. That shows a lack of pride in the job, a sight all to common these days unfortunately.

Our office received a really nice apology letter from Pirate Jacks after we reported in with a complaint about the return debauchery. They agree'd that the return was not handled well and said changes will be made from the factory to better explain the dual use of this one unit. They offered to resend two more units to replace the ones poorly packaged which resulted in damage... WE just dont believe it's the right unit to begin with, so we are done. Looking elsewhere for the fixes/replacements. My hope it that they can learn from our poor experience and make things better/easier/faster for their next customer. Unfortunately the next customer will not be us. Peace Out!
