Took the day off work to be at home for the countertop template measuring just to be sure they got it right and wish I wouldn't have. Since I was home I fired up the Charger and took the kids to school (my daughter loves being dropped off in it), once home I parked it off to the side of the driveway on the bank and got to work on the house. On a trip to the garage for a tool I noticed bugs all collected in one spot on the Charger... thinking it was odd I took a closer look:mad::BangHead::BangHead::BangHead::mad::eek:!!! Evidently if you park on a bank the fuel goes to one side sealing off the filler neck then as the day warms the air escaping pushes fuel out of the filler and all over the car... The bugs were stuck in the gas!!!! Not knowing how long it had been leaking I inspected it and whataya know I'll be repainting some of my rear quarter now. At least the worst of it is where I was planning on touching up some stone chips but don't look forward to the other spot... What a pain that will be to repair, blend and buff without getting into the rump stripe!

That sucks! I take it that is has no clear coat. I had the same thing happen on a motorcycle I painted once.

That's weird man, and totally sucks too. Not a fun discovery for sure. Good luck with the repair.

That really sucks but shouldn't it escape through a vent tube before going all the way up there?

House of kolors, base coat/clear coat. Seamed like a really hard clear when I was buffing it out but it only affected 2 spots? I know the very bottom had plenty stone chips that could explain it but the spot above? Maybe buffed the clear to thin, a scratch... don't know?

I was thinking the same thing and will be looking at it to make sure it isn't pinched.

Damn ... same thing happened to a buddies dart. Parked in front of his house on a hot summer day earlier this year, gas seeped out from the filler neck and peeled the paint from the gas cap all the way down the quarter to bare metal ....

wow that sucks I sure you will fix it in no time at all make it a winter project

my barracuda did the same thing back before the currant paint job.

All I want to know is why u didn't park in the shade in that beautiful garage? Lol. Jeff

That sucks for damn sure...
I'd be peeved too...

somewhat strange too, thanks for the warning & heads up

Don't get me wrong & I'm no paint expert by any means,
BUT;
it seems like to me, that automotive paint
"usually isn't effected as bad to gasoline", clear or not

I've spilled gas on the paint on several of my cars
over the many years even stuff that sat for a while &
I don't remember that ever happening,
not that it cant... strange,
albeit; I usually have wiped it off before that happened

{I see you didn't know it happened until it was too late, that sucks too}

is there an additive in your fuel ?,
like an octane booster etc. ?
that could have done &/or contributed to that ?
Just curious ?

the whole situation sucks either way, such a nice car
