Same here, 50% or more lost at certain frequencies. Can't clearly hear someone talking to me in a noisy room, particularly women's voices. The constant crickets come and go with intensity but are always there.
I have similar aids to what ghost has but i seldom where them as they didn't help much in a noisy room scenario. They do make music sound different though as if some more instruments were now audible.
I also don't like the tinny sound they seem to make as some noises become much crisper. If permitted, I'd suggest trying them for a while before committing.

I too have a set from the VA. They are from a company called Resound and I have seen them at Costco but those may be of a different quality level. Mine Bluetooth to everything including my I phone Vi an app that controls everything. I can program them and save it for various situations such as "retaurant " where I have them adjusted to cover all the back ground noise. When I get a phone call it rings in the hearing aid and I hear the caller directly in my ear, makes for nice hands free driving. There is a TV device where I can adjust the volume I want without blasting everyone else out of the room.. awesome and it has absolutely made a difference for me. All those years on the flight line and in the "tube of pain" took a toll and the VA was right there for me.
Mine look similar to what the ghost shows except they made a mold of both my ears and custom fit the ear piece. I don't even know they are there and have made a note on the shower to remember to remove when I get in!

RC, I also have the same brand as Ghostrider has shown. As he said, they are comfortable and after a short time getting used to them, you don't even realize you have them on. They have helped me to hear "better" but of course no hearing aid will eliminate your hearing loss, it is permanent. Years ago I tried a pair of "in the ear" type hearing aids and hated them. Always felt like my ears were plugged, actually they were of course. These "behind the ear" aids are 1000% better and I can actually wear them all day. (Although I don't on many days when around home) As I remember, they were about $5K for the pair, with insurance I ended up paying $2500. Also, I went to the audiologist at my local medical clinic for the hearing evaluation and the purchase of the hearing aids, very thorough and professional.

Good luck with your search for hearing help, we sure don't need a deaf DH here on the board.

Yeah, my hearing is bad because of standing next to, driving inside of, and generally being around helicopters. They make it possible to hear in a crowded room with lots of people talking near me.

So you understand what I have lived with forever. Noise is just more noise.

Yes, I do. I was wanting the ones that u can program to phone and all but with TBI my memory is real bad and I lose them and wash them often so they wont let me have the more expensive ones. lol.

Have not looked into the latest of inplants. Only thing out there I know of for nerve defenses. Also have not bothered with a hearing test for over 40 years. The last test consist of 2 weeks in a sound proof room compliments of the USAF in 75.
Have a freind that has inplants. Be thankful your aids are cheap. His were are mirror $750000.
Thank fully I have one good ear so life is not all bad. One makes adjustments.

All kidding aside, Mrs Wacko has been pestering for years to get my hearing checked. I passed all work (CDL) and audiologist tests I just had with certain tone loss <15%. But like others, tinnitus, and crowds I cant hear sometimes. Restaurants/Bars are the worst.
As a side question, Medicare cover this?

I have Costco units ... TOTALLY satisfied with both the product and the service. As you know, virtually everything in Costco is their "Kirkland" brand but obviously they don't manufacture all those things. In the case of the hearing aids, they are the same product you'll pay a ridiculous amount for at a hearing specialist. When I bought mine they told me which particular "name brand" mine are and I literally saved THOUSANDS. In addition, Costco processed both my insurance and government medical claims and I only paid the uninsured amount. The hearing specialists all wanted the $$ up front and it was up to me to get the insurance and government money. Costco is open late - not the hearing shops!! Cheap batteries at Costco - not the hearing shops! Free ear inserts at Costco - not the hearing shops! I love Costco !!! I did not opt for the "top of the line" bluetooth one's - didn't see the advantage and still don't. Mine are one level down and I love them. What was $2000. at Costco was $5000. at the hearing shops. Insurance and government only cover a fixed $ amount so anyone buying at hearing shops are paying a fortune "out of pocket".

It's also dependent on the phone or speakers. My kids are young and have perfect hearing, they confirmed my iPhone only produces up to about 15k Hz.

Rc, I have worn hearing aids for several years now, They have got better and smaller.
The set I have now is {Resound} brand. I have had good service from them and they do get put through the ringer, I work each day in our body shop , dirty , dusty , loud.
My main complaint is as tech improves and the aids get smaller so has the batteries, also the bells and features the shorter the life span of the batteries. I get aprox 5 days on a pair of batteries.
Most of the aids today self mute at loud noise.
I have settings for work, conversation , movies / bar type setting. I can also crank the up or dumb them down by the tiny push button.

If you ever get caught out in a hard rain, take them out and put them in your pocket, Mine will stand some moisture but not a hard rain.
Also add them onto your home owners insurance policy before the factory warranty expires.
Mine cost right at $3,800 for the pair this last set. like anything the price goes up over time.

The button doesn't turn them off. You have to open the battery tray to the first detent. Or are you talking about the mole on my face?
