Hi, this is Wayne again XMANs son. Before he got hospitalized we were in the proses in get his 62 ploara 500 max wedge done. I would love to get it done for him. I took the bolt on drive shaft to a place where we get all our shafts balanced. They said they cant balance it. Anyone have any ideas ? When we put it in w/ the car on jack stands & ran the car in gear, it had a vibration. Took the drive shaft out, ran it & no vibration. We live in white deer PA. Northcentral PA. Just below Williamsport. Thanks

Are there any other driveshaft shops around, Wayne? If I remember right, it takes an adapter that mounts onto the flange, on those driveshafts.
The shop you use doesn't have one??

Hope your dad is getting by...

Im not sure. We always used a place called HEAVY DUTY PARTS. Im going to make some phone calls. If I find one I hope it isn't to far away. They must not have that adapter.

All it does is centers the flange end of the driveshaft, and gives a way to mount it on the balancing machine.

I had a similar incident and ended up putting a magnetic base dial indicator on the shaft in three places to ascertain the extent of the bow. It turned out that the center of the shaft was .040 out of plane due to a twist in the yolk at the differential. Someone put the juice to the shaft a few times too many. I had the shop make a new one and upped the size of the joints etc. at the same time. Never looked back. Years ago I dropped a shaft from a broken yolk at the front of the shaft and in the process the shaft broke the input yolk on the differential, took out my left rear tire. a gouge in the floor pan and ruined one very expensive rim. You know what to do!

OK, I dropped the shaft off at a place called Mapco. They said they could do it. Just got home from the hospital & there was a message saying it was done. SWEET !!!!!

Let us know what they found. Out of balance or not straight?

And how's dad doing?
Just out of balance. Welded on two quarter size washers. Dad is about the same. He is getting better on some things. As long as he doesn't go back wards.

Well !!! *&@*&$!I It still has the vibration. I took the wheels off, I check torque converter bolts, trany mount bolts, rear u joint bolts. The rear that's in it is out of my dads 67 gtx. He drove the gtx before he tore it down to restore & it drove fine. I have no clue. I have tried to run it & look underneath to see if I can see whats vibrating. It has a terrible vibration.

Hey...we havin' fun, yet? Welcome to the world of mix, and match.

Read your post on pinion angle. For what it's worth, on my 64, have a 67 8 3/4" rear, but also a 67 trans.

But, your saying it vibrates, just idling, wheels off the ground. That has to be in the motor, or trans hook-up. What motor? Can't tell you much on small blocks, never worked on one. If anything like big blocks, the type of crank, tells you what balancer is used. Same deal with converter.
Time to stand back, and toss a couple handfuls of common sense at it. Probably something simple, but irritating.
