Hi guys, I've recently put the fenders back on my 66 Satellite and have a question. When I disassembling the car I was doing it the professional way, relying on my super memory and taking general photos of the progress but nothing really specific....you can see where this is going....
When researching new seals for the splashshields I started wondering about any seals between the fender and the inner fender. Then I remembered the soft putty like stuff I peeled off the inner fender, but I can't even remember where it went - maybe horizontally all the way along, at a level under the bolt holes?
They are currently back on, metal to metal, but I'd like to take them off and do it again properly. Has anyone got any photos or can describe what seals are required and where they go?
Thanks in advance.

I just pulled our 67 R/T apart and I don't recall anything between the fender and inner fender.

Yes there are seals and they attach with those same push clips as the front access holes on the inner fenders where the brake lines come in that stuff is on a roll and you cut to fit there are kits available as well

Years ago I had a '69 442 that had a light foam material between the inner and outer fender attachment points but the issue was that water in between the joint would cause hidden rust formations. Having removed the material, I installed thin plastic washers between the joints so if there was water present, it would just dry out instead of lingering for days. If I were to do it again, I would use a small bead of non-hardening sealer above the holes to separate the metal surfaces and prevent water streaks on my inner fender wells. The material Chrysler used was to prevent squeaking and ensure there was no "slipping" from bumps and body flex.

Hmmmm food for thought. I've found these available

which I assume do the job or I can get some non hardening sealant locally. I think I'll go with the sealant as that seems to be what the factory did. Thanks for all the advice.

Those parts do not go between the fender and inner fender. They are used to create an inner fender around splash shields.

Between the fender and the inner fender where the bolts and u-nuts are located, the factory used something similar to 3M Strip Caulking. It is a soft non hardening seal that can be painted. Some cars had more than others. If your doing a 66-67 Satellite, make sure when purchasing the inner fender headlight seals that they are made for the Satellite. A 66-67 Belevedere takes a similar set of seals, but they are different and will not interchange.

You can probably find it a little cheaper but there are the ones
