Best sign .......

The best sign I've seen in a long time was today. It was a guy begging for money and his cardboard sign had nothing on it.--It was blank--:) If I had a sharpy I would have donated it to him.

Having been in the audio video business, vinyl has made a HUGE resurgence, especially amongst the "audiophile snobs", and I have a decent turntable a dear departed friend's daughter gave me.
What I am pretty pissed off about is the lack of more titles on SACD. GREAT format, the best disc audio format by far IMO, better than the best vinyl, but the "snobs" have dissed it so not as many choices as I would like. I have a couple of SACD players, one by Sony was originally $3k and I think I paid $1,200 or $1,500 for it used, but it is outstanding and has a unique FireWire connection that matches a FireWire input on my receiver.

I don't think it was the 'snobs' who dissed SACD. In fact I'd guess that it's only the upper audiophile community that supports it, which isn't enough volume for mass marketing. Myself, I have a ton of vinyl and a good Rega, but only ever had a couple of SACDs. I didn't feel I could afford the hardware for yet another format.

Nice turntable. I am an audio performance enthusiast, but not a snob. I would put my audio system up against any system out there that may cost 2-3 times what mine did. I get the allure of vinyl, but there is no way that its overall sound and performance, especially at the dB level I drive my music to on numerous occasions, can compare with SACD. SACD provides as "true to the original performance" fidelity as there is, IMO, without the "noise" inherent in vinyl and even other digital and analog formats. IMO, SACD is the purist digital disc reproduction format that there is. I'm just starting to explore high resolution audio files, I am sure I will enjoy that as well, and a number of those can be downloaded and played back in DSD (SACD format, without the disc)
By the way, I have a really nice Sony DVD player that does a GREAT job with CD/SACD playback that I'm not using anymore if you are interested.
