When is a 1972 SB intake manifold not a '72?

Short answer: when you find the casting date is 3.2.73
Full story: Last year I purchased a 340 intake manifold advertised as '72 (I have a '72 ThermoQuad I THINK #6139S) with casting number 3671918AE. Well, today when I went to pre-fit a new 1972 choke, I quickly found out that the manifold will not accommodate it. Back to the drawing board.

That is the same date code and part number that is on my 73 340 manifold. The 6139 is the correct thermoquad for 72 340.

Do you have any fotos of the carb to accelerator and kick down linkage by any chance?

If you want to get a correct choke for the manifold, they are available here,

The link shows a part #170-1407 and your box in the foto is #170-1408, but I think either would work.

If you look at the link, the 1407 part interchanges with other parts including 1408

I am curious, do the heads on your 340 match up with the exhaust cross over on the 73 manifold?

I don't know what your concern is with the cross over, but here is what I see:

First foto shows "J" cylinder head with felpro intake gskt.
Second shows '73 intake with intake gasket
Third shows an unused/mystery hole between two intake bolts (there are two unused holes on the passenger side and zero holes on the driver's side of the intake manifold-same weird holes present in factory '68 340 intake manifold)

My '73 intake manifold is missing that sheet metal heat/oil deflector on the inside bottom of the manifold. Now I am seriously thinking about blocking off the crossover heat passage (the exhaust heat crossover valve in the exhaust manifold has already been removed anyway).

If you block crossover you will need a different choke as no heat

You will not need the cross over to work because you live in a warm area.
With the bad quality of today's gas it will run much better with the cross over blocked.

diff manifolds and heads will still meet the crossover passages... even using aftermarket intakes and heads with this feature. Is a standard location
