Yup. That happened. Traffic here is a disaster so rather than fix the problem, they made it worse. At a profit for them, of course. 95 and 495 have HOT lanes already and they already charge in excess of $20 each during rush hour to make a less than 10 mile drive on each. I can't wait to move in a few years. If I didn't work form home, it would absolutely suck to live here.
Open road tolling is a state run extortion racket.

Our gov't here in the Commonwealth has suffered a severe case of Cranial/Rectal Inversion for the past several years.. When the last kid is out of the house, I am Montana-bound.

Dad would always let me do that from the back seat when I was a kid, who didn't do that? AAR, I think in the Bay area they raised the bridge toll to $10 if they haven't already from what I last remember was $5. I never could understand why they charge you when your out bound from there but no going in? I guess that's the "EXIT" tax I keep talkin about?

SF & Bay, Carqinez Straights Bridge's tolls here,
no toll roads here at all none I know of anyway
our taxes & liberal tax & spend govt. is bad enough !!
Our tolls are far less too, it's been a while but I don't think
it's over $5 for either, last I went/crossed it was like only
$2 for a pickup or car...
You could buy a monthly or yearly book for a severe discount too...
Slightly more for commercial vehicles...

Yeah... Under this system, the tolls are variable. There is no way to predict how bad the pricing will be on a day-to-day basis.. The worse the traffic, the higher the price.

Damn I miss Virginia, but I don't miss the stupid way it's ran. When I lived there they were talking about tolling.

I lived in Alexandria, worked in D.C. and across from the Pentagon, Crystal City in the early nineties. It took me two hours to get to work, traffic was horrible.

My record home from DC to Quantico is almost 4 hours.. Sucks when you drive a stick and have to pee. LOL

Leave it to the Government to come up with a backasswards scheme like that. They no longer even try to hide the fact that they now punish what they deem bad behavior. eg. driving an automobile. The more of you that drive, the more we are going to charge you for being evil carbon emitting heathens.

Never thought I'd see toll roads in Texas but both of the outer loops around Houston are toll.....at least it's not expensive....yet.

Dallas is quickly turning into toll country. 635 has a progressive toll now that is the same as mentioned above. North Dallas Toll, George Bush, 121, and almost all other HOV lanes are now a fast lane toll option. Now 360 is turning into a toll lane. They are very expensive relatively speaking but nothing like Virginia but like you said, it's only a matter of time. Next thing you know you will be electronically tolled on your phone for pulling out of your driveway and if your car is 20 years or older, its triple the price!

the tollway system encircling shitcago has now 'open road tolling'.What happened to the days of flipping a quarter into the basket??
those whom opt to pay cash do it at twice the transponder rate.
the staff to operate the coin booths have been pared to the bones. (another 'where are folks supposed to work' situation)
and the new roads & ramps that have been converted to tollways are electronic pay only.

I live in stafford county that toll road dumps out at the countys first exit i don't see how people pay these tolls I'm glad i don't have to drive them anymore . I believe a german company builds these toll roads and pays the state a portion of the money I remember years ago I,95 had toll booths coming in and out of richmond throw the quarter in type they closed them in the late 80s .
