looking around for a mild / moderate built 383 or 440, would prefer in fl or cinci, oh area, would like to hear motor before purchase, getting tired of the 400 and dont want to build it, would rather find a turn key i can drop in and go..PM me if you have something interesting !

There's this-

...and this-

I doubt you'll notice any difference replacing your 400 with a 383, unless it's moderately built. In that case a set of higher compression AL heads might be a better investment.

Honestly, even a 440, again- unless it's at least moderately built, is not going to be a huge difference.

On that second listing- I'd suspect one of those is reverse rotation. I wonder where they got the 330 HP figure.

Your 72 400 should have been rated at about 250 NET HP, the same as my 2000 5.9.

IIRC the 72-ish 440 was rated 275.

Thanks YY,

looking more for one that someone has built for their car and is ready to upgrade to something bigger , i have 915 closed chamber heads with BIG valves on this one with a thumper cam and 750 carb. bottom end is stock.

hoping to find a 440 with 400 hp +/- that i can just drop in and go

I suppose those marine engines could be in two different boats.
That would eliminate the reverse rotation issue.

They might be built.

IDK how they do marine HP.

Are you talking 400 HP gross, net, or at the wheel?

Most build threads/articles use gross, so my 250 net is about 300 gross.

It's only $6,000

Are you sure you want a .550 lift cam and an engine that has an operating range starting at almost 3000 RPM?

Have you looked at Carolina Machine (CME)?

Last column at left is short block price, next is long block, then complete (some with AL heads)
