I feel like an idiot asking for help with this but I can’t figure it out. I have a 69 Coronet. My parking break never worked and I just replaced the parking break pedal with an original working one. I have 2 problems now.

The first problem is the parking break pedal seems a little loose and it doesn’t “spring” back very good or all the way forward so now my “brake” light is on on the dash. If I hold it with my hand all the way up in the realeased position, the light will go off. Seems like it needs adjusting but I don’t know how.

The second issue is adjusting the parking break cables. I think there is an adjuster screw under the car somewhere but I can’t find it. Also I’ve never adjusted Parkin breaks so I’m not sure on exactly how it’s done.

Any help would be appreciated, before I take it to a brake shop.

Your parking brake cables have to be in good working order first of all. The e-brake pedal assembly has a return spring but it's not strong enough to pull the cables back if they are hanging up.

The adjustment is made under the center of the car where the main cable hooks to the rear cables.

Ok copy that, I’ll give it a try tomorrow and hopefully they are just loose and I don’t need new cables.

The cable adjustment under car inside rear frame rail.

If they were "loose", your pedal would return fully. One of them is probably bad, now you have to figure out which one. Not always easy to do.

You can pull both drums and watch the park brake assemblies on each side, as a helper applies and releases park brake pedal. If one side doesn't move, or very little, suspect that cable. If neither moves, or very little, suspect front cable. At that point you need to separate the cables from each other and test individually.

If you can do the adjustment yourself then here's a simple in-depth article that will guide you step by step and contains all the info you need about parking brakes:
