Hemi Prices?

Anyone want to venture an opinion as to why Hemi cars of all years have dropped in value so much over the last several years?
 
A deep mistrust developed by people seeing High dollar cars advertised with no pictures to accompany the adverts? :rolleyes:

I would guess it has something to do with diluted inheritance and a general lack of interest by the younger crowd. Most of the older guys with interest seem to be getting out of the hobby.
 
More people buying new Hemi Challengers and Chargers.Selling off their vintage Mopar muscle cars.
 
But yet 383 B bodies seem to rise in price. Seems like a nice driver NOT a show car bring 25k +

I agree. If I could get good money for the RR, I’d be doing the same thing for a Hellcat.

I dont blame you & why wouldnt you but no to sound like a snob but new / newer cars are the last thing i notice at any show
 
it was a bubble/way inflated market for a while
way, way over priced, it came back to reality...

Somewhat IMO some more effluent people, were dabbling in the market
it was better growth than the Obama era/economy/markets, by leaps & bounds
{many billionaires or Millionaires, people with extra money, speculation buys,
to pay extreme prices, it was a different group of people, it's evolved
to another group now, it changes all the time}
changing their collections etc., drives some "auction"market pricing
& not so much not the regular markets stuff, unless someone thinks
"their rusted out hulk, is worth it's weight in gold", when it's not even close,
to the restored or true survivor cars, auction cars values...

many collection & hoarders
selling at a cheaper price, doing or collecting something different
the market for old or vintage cars is always evolving &
it's never stagnant, just cahanging

way too many people bought at the inflated value IMO

them people took it in the shorts

other brands are still selling for extreme prices

Mopar has been 3rd wheel 75% or more of the time
they don't get the respect or not as popular more like
like the GM or Ford counterparts or Euro-exotics & Pro-touring craze
all of which is going strong

Hemi cars have always been a fickle'd market
no rime or reasoning

I don't get it most the time
maybe I should buy a Hemi car, before they go thru the roof again...

I have very little interest in the newer cars,
albeit some very cool rides
cool to look at & read about, but "Just not my thing"
now newer trucks/4x4's that peaks my interests

driver cars, survivors car & older restored trucks & 4x4 markets,
seems to be doing very well

my $0.02 cents

Seems most of the guys that own older muscle
cars including Hemi's are sporting gray/ white
hair .
I'm in that category,own a Hemi Sat.
Most younger car guys go for Tuner Cars,
see lots at cruise nights& shows
 
I’m going crazy to get back into the game ! This site is the only thing getting me by ! 3 to 4 more years and I’ll get another B-body !
 
I have 2 mopars 64 and 68,wedge not Hemi. If I were younger and had more room and help I would buy another. And maybe some more kool stuff from the period. Another problem is that I have trouble thinking my 2 grown sons are worthy of my stuff, and that's the big one.
 
I would agree with what's been written. Older owners are starting to either move the older cars or at least are starting to think about it. It is also getting harder to justify keeping a very expensive hemi car that gets driven very infrequently but you're paying your insurance on it etc.... when you can sell it, bank some money and buy a Hellcat or Scat Pack and have a car that runs harder, is comfortable, gets better mileage and you can enjoy it for however many more years you have left on the planet.
I'm speaking from recent experience. I sold my 69 Hemi Charger 500 recently and I cried like a little baby the day I pulled it out of the garage and placed it in the driveway for the transport truck to come and get it. When the truck showed up I cried more. But I did use some mont to buy a 6 speed Hellcat Challenger and I have to tell you guys. It is unbelievable to drive. It makes me smile every time I get in it. Yes, I still miss the Charger, and I always will. But time marches on and it waits for no man. Get it while the getting is good.

1. The people who wanted to buy these cars new are all in their 70's now, probably interested grandchildren more than old cars.
2. The kids like me who grew up hearing about these cars are in their mid 40's now but realistically how many of them can drop $100K or more on a car?
3. Anyone who is actually interested in a fast mopar and is under 30 is going to buy a used hellcat for $40K. Faster, safer, more reliable, and gets 2x gas mileage while cruising 80 mph on the interstate.
 
I'm in my 70's and have a Gen 2 hemi in a 71 Cuda and I also have a 10 SRT Challenger. With the cuda if it doesn't start at least I can figure it out. If the SRT doesn't start I wouldn't know where to begin. Computers for computers to make things run. One day I was driving the cuda and the motor died. I pulled to the side of the road, opened the hood and saw the coil wire popped out of the coil. I reinserted it and was back on my way. I'm old school and at least I can figure it out on old technology.
 
My kids couldn't care less that their dad has a crossram 540 hemi 65 belvedere sedan... they would rather play fortnite than cruise wtf.. hahaha

Points 2&3 are spot on.

I would love to have a Hemi car, no way I could afford one. Seems like growing up all these cars were just out of reach and that still continues today.

@skyman51 - what are you comparing for decreased value? If your still referencing pre-2008 car prices, they all fell. I watched Mecum and BJ this weekend and Hemi cars looked pretty strong to me. 66 Satelite did some pretty good money and an E Body did almost $200k, no sale on that one.
 
What did the 66 Hemi Satellite sell for?
 
All I know is 1967 435 Corvettes with originality and docs are selling for over 200K. I have 1 of 720 1967 Hemi GTX's with original paperwork. It is a first place show winning car. I can't give it away without a huge loss. I am 67 and would be willing to talk to a serious party, but not for an offer of 1/2 of what it is really worth.
 
I have a hemi car but it's a 40 Ford with a 392 that's my hemi fix since I don't want to spend close to 100K for a real hemi car. I like my 440 just fine in the dodge.
