I went to see him with Submit in an outdoor theater in the summer of 1986, however, the audio was so bad that our section couldn't hear him. People to the left of us in other sections were laughing hysterically, but he was muffled on our side. We walked over to where the sound was good, but we were told that we couldn't stand there & ended up leaving after about a half an hour which was too bad. I did end up getting my money back.
I always enjoyed the Dean Martin Roasts. Packed with hysterical anecdotes and a full contingent of REAL stars, they were actually enjoyable to watch. The roasts now are merely forgotten has-beens (most with less than 15 minutes of "fame") throwing out disgusting insults in between F Words. Lisa Lampanelli never made me even crack a smile but she certainly turned my stomach more than once.
Went to Dangerfields when Rodney had his club in NYC back in the 70's. He actually came out on stage and did his usually hilarious stint. Was a treat to see him in person, one of the best. And, as far as Dean Martin's roasts, you couldn't gather a better group of comedy geniuses.
Foster Brooks, drunk brain surgeon, drunk airline pilot, drunk dentist, on Dean Martin's shows and roasts.
A riot, and clean. He stepped out of character and bowed, to show he wasn't really lit.
