Your assuming everyone in the Air Force is an air crew member on the "Heavy" aircraft.
Not so.
As i mentioned in my other reply, i never heard that term, wherever i was based, and throughout the 1970's when i was active duty.
Maybe it's a generational thing, when that phrase was invented during your time in service. Dunno?
I'm sure we used terms that were specific to the bases i was stationed at, and the European continent, that Airman in the USA never heard of, or used.

I was in SAC , then believe it or not , I crossed to MAC , totally unheard of ! No one could believe it ! But was a special set of circumstances. Never heard either of those terms from Aug 1965 to June 1969
Gotta admit I was a grunt in ground power tho---------

Well it's pretty simple actually. Those of us that flew were known as Zipper Suited Sun Gods because of out very nice TDY's and crew rest at places like Hickam AFB HA, Anderson AFB Guam, and many more. Hit the beach, beers in tow, sun tan oil, and then voila!!! A nice tan. We also were known as Crew Dogs. Remember that the amount of flyers in the AF is about 8% of the total force so it was a club of sorts. Yep we had it slightly better than the ground ponders that were not on flying status such as Mechanics, Aerial Porters, etc. But our days were way longer and tougher when you are constantly jumping time zone after time zone. Me??? I was in first from 1969 - 1976 and then 1980 - 2008 and back during my first hitch, those terms were all there...cr8crshr/Tuck

Hey...They were hired after a FULL interview, oral and spelling tests were administered, there was a complete physical as well. Mammograms, the whole she-bang. Hundreds were interviewed for the two positions I wanted to fill. These two, besides being excellent with English both in print and in tongue, are nice eye candy as well.
