Need Dual Point Assistance

Please see the image below pointing out the screws that I have holding my points down

Please see the image below pointing out the clip I am using to attach my vacuum arm to the advancing plate. It did originally have a C clip, but I lost it so I had to use that type of clip.

When the point arm opens is it touching the screw head and grounding? If so it will act like the points are actually closed. Think that is what HF is saying.

Original clips were spring steel and square with an open corner. A giant PITA to put on, I'm looking for one.

Just tried turning the distributor with the vacuum on and off of the advance, and I did not see any contact between the points arm and the screw.

Tell me about it. Mine popped off when I was trying to put it on and then vanished.

First thing I see here is the top set of points in first picture are on the flat of the cam and look to be open when they should be closed !

They are hitting the screws at RPM almost guarantee I they are philister head, you need two pan head screws. That clip is fine. Mostly what I use you cannot get the square ones any more and e clips have a habit of falling off also. I also see the points on top need to be aligned better.

Not trying to start a debate, but there is nothing wrong with philister head screws if they have the correct head size, this is an untouched, never apart 66 Hemi Prestolite with original screws. The screws in his picture are not the original.I just finished these yesterday and the points will actually clear the screw head with the ground wire and washer under each.

Those are the right pan/button head screws for sure. The fillister are like the ones on the vac advance. Kind of like a small tub? I will see what I can find pic wise.
Nice distributors.

My question is why are you using that trash to begin with. Not trying to insult you but I remember trying to keep that working tirelessly and without success back int the day when that was all there was. There are superior components that will fit right in your dist and work flawlessly without maintenance. Here is the link of the components I put in my distributor over ten years ago, https://www.ebay.com/itm/PERTRONIX-...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649.

Evidently Chrysler didn't think it was trash, started with the Autolite in the 50's then bought by Prestolite and used until 71,maintained properly, nothing wrong with them. You have been using what like for over 10 yrs, I have been using them since the beginning,"never" had a problem,to each his own !

Interesting.
How often do you have to change, adjust points?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it...

Good chance, on that Prestolite, if the screw heads are too tall, points are getting grounded out.

It is a bad picture, they are in fact closed now.

Do mine look that different? I can't tell.

If the dimensions on the cam are:
flat to flat: 0.986
point to point: 1.03

If that is correct, perhaps the issue is the screws that holds the points down.
While there is no contact when I turn it by hand, perhaps under speed there is flexing or some up and down movement that creates contact?
