How does my cam look? Bad? Good? Don’t care?

Edelbrock Rpm cam after disassemble.
Tried to show a bunch of lobe ends.
I’m not optimistic.
Input please.

Did you set your lifters aside noting which hole each one came out of?? Otherwise it doesn't really matter...
 
If mixed lifter and don't KNOW where they you'll need all new lifters. dads bee is correct. You might want to think about a new cam anyway.
 
Hard to tell from the pics, but the wear widens out at the tip of the lobe. If any lobes are losing metal, that is bad. Measure the exhaust lobes base circle to nose and compare then do the same for the intakes. If there a any large variations, the cam is worn. The better indication would be the lifter bottoms. If they are concave or damaged, replace it all. At this point, it is less to replace it now, than having to go back in in a month.

I thought they are supposed to be slightly concave in order to rotate in the housing?
 
Convex to promote spinning, concave for a cereal bowl...
 
Hard to tell from looking at a few pics on my phone, but several of those have some really strange patterns on them.

The foot of the lifter should have a very uniform pattern to it(equally shined up everywhere), and still have a very slight crown to it.

I’m doing a little update to a 360 here, pulled out the lifters...... I’d say 1/2 of them had stopped rotating at some point.
Several of the cam lobes had less than .001 taper.
Most performance cams are usually closer to .002 taper.

Fortunately..... a cam swap was the main part of the planned change.

Why was the engine torn down? If it was for a refresh, minor or major, a new cam and lifters are in order anyway. You're already in it, why try to save a few bucks knowing that if you miss it could cost you several thousand. Cheap insurance in my opinion to replace.

since you have cam out just put a new one in,and you do not have to worry about it.
 
I’ve never reinstalled a cam or lifters.

Yes mines a 360 too!
 
I reinstalled the cam in my last 440 I put together. Long story but the cam had under 500 miles on it. I did do new lifters.

That cam looks not so fresh. I wouldn’t put it back in. If your dealing with a machine shop take that along and see what they say.
