I have the dome light working when I activate it with the headlight switch but I was wondering if it is suppose to come one when the doors of my 72 satellite are open. Mine does not but I didn't know if that was a factory function or if I jus didn't have working door switches.

If the switches are screwed into the door jamb securely, they are grounded. That's one side of the circuit. There should be a wire with a connector on the end of it attached to the opposite end of the plunger that the door pushes on. That is the other side of the circuit. Here is a pic of the wire, and one of it attached to the jamb switch. If you don't want to take out the kick panels, unscrew the switch and pull it out to see if the wire is attached. If there is a wire attached, grounding that wire should turn the dome light on. If it does, the switch is bad. If that doesn't turn on the dome, your problem is upstream from the jamb switch.

Specifically for the ’72 b-body, you should find a 3-connector pin switch on the driver’s side and a two connector switch on the passenger side.
