Ok so I have a 68 Runner that I am going to put a 6 pack style hood/scoop on and I am going to make it functional. I have a 383 in it now with a Holley 750 carb. Any baseplates for the air grabber 383 use a 5 1/8" base hole for the Holley size or are they all the Carter/afb style hole that I believe is smaller. Wasn't sure if they used a Holley in 70 or anything that would let me use the lid with my Holley. Not looking to pay up the waaaazoooo for an A12 baseplate, just wanna use an open air cleaner to benefit from the cold air somewhat.

got a Holley on my 383 and Six Barrel style hood. Fits just fine.

For some reason I thought they were the smaller hole size like the earlier Carters. I am unfamiliar with the AFB stuff as I always run Holleys. That is awesome news if they have the same 5 1/8" hole in all of them. So anyone know if they all will fit a holley for 69-71? Also, I can probably run the 440 or 383 style as I think the heights are different. Being I am not trying to mate up to an Airgrabber setup, I can probably use either or and get away with it as long as they all fit the Holley.

yup...same same. the early carters were smaller

Here is my original 383 base plate. Fits fine over a holley carb.

I see herbs has it for $404 for the base and air cleaner lid. I am thinking that is cheaper than I will find an original. For my application, it isn't stock anyways, so I will probably lean that way unless I can find an original at Carlisle or on here reasonable.

Oh... a few. A couple of OE's, a polished heavy stainless unit that would have been an early '70's Direct Connection sale and a fiberglass replica that would work for someone pinching pennies. Only one I would sell is the fiberglass unit at this point.

If you aren't in a rush just keep watching the classifieds and browsing for parts where you can. I haven' t paid $400 yet, including a filter.

I got mine off of Craig's List a couple years ago for $350.

That fit with clearance for the 2 speed big wiper motor?
No..not for me anyhow... you'll have to cut it if you want to keep the 2 speed.. something I corrected on mine putting a three speed in and repairing a 40 year old cut out to get it back to correct.

I'd like to find a pre hacked unit to save from hacking another.

you don't need to cut the base to clear the wiper motor. All I had to do was cut the tube for the hose, and it fits nicely.

Just for comparison with Basket Case's oval, a round '72 440 AG with tube on the opposite side ...…….
