Hey guys. I was just wondering if anyone here has run one of these. I don’t have a transmission yet for my charger and have been trying to do some research. All I know is TCI seems to have horrible reviews. I really want to run a 4 speed, but I have a cast crank 440 right now. Eventually I would like to build a stroker motor and then swap to a 4 speed.
 
Having a cast crank is not a problem. There are pilot bearings that fit into the torque converter hub that support the 4 speed input shaft. I think they were first used in a FWD or Dakota application. It is a roller bearing and works well. I used one in a cast crank 360 setup. The torque converter hub is the same size as the 440.
Regarding automatic transmissions....Some have had good luck with TCI or they would have closed their doors by now. I had a converter of theirs and it worked fine. Some say their initials stand for Total Crap Inside...Funny and maybe true in some instances!

My only concern with the 4 speed is that I have to cut the input shaft shorter correct? If I go to a forged stroker crank later will I have to put a new input shaft in in the transmission or could I still use the roller bearing setup in a forged crank? Thanks for the help bud.
 
I left my 833 4 speed as is. The input shaft sticks past that roller bearing and into the recess of the crank. See, the cast crank recess exists but is not big enough for a pilot bushing, yet slightly larger than the input shaft itself.

Oh! Maybe it was the gen iii hemis that you have to cut it. This is great news. Never mind about the automatic, 4 speed it is. Thanks for the help guys!

Brewers stock the bearing Kern Dog mentioned. It drifts in to the torque converter recess. There is plenty of info out there about getting the 4 speed installed correctly.
My 340 motor uses that bearing and the crank is drilled so the gearbox input shaft is not cut.
If your stroker crank does not have the recess it would be a simple machining job to do before the engine is assembled.

Many BB cast cranks are not drilled at all for input shaft clearance, these are the ones that need to have the input pilot shortened.
