So I posted in another thread the original pics in the welcome post. After much struggle we got the rear seat pan in. Still had to fab my own pieces to a degree. But the seat pan is finally in....

It is a 1974. Plymouth satellite. Found it in Tennessee. Thought it was going to be in a little better shape since it was a south car. But I guessed wrong....lol....But still a lot more to do after the body gets refinished. My son, who is a technician and has been working on the mechanical parts of the vehicle for about 10 years now, wants to take out the engine try and rebuild it and reseal everything along with rewiring some major portions of the car to make sure that things are going to operate properly like the headlamps and possibly swapping lamps to something more modern. Also been redoing brake and fuel lines from front to back. Suspension needs some love as well. But I know he has done some amazing work so hopefully we can make this thing really come back together. But any suggestions as far as converting rear drum brakes to discs. Been having some trouble finding a kit for 14in rims. Only thing I could find was conversion kits for 15in rims. If I swap rim sizes what else needs to be done to convert the rest of the vehicle to 15in rims. Thank you in advance, any information is appreciated, and any questions I can answer I will try and help with any info I can.

As far as converting brakes: I have converted my 70 Road Runner to front disk, rear drum and I left my 73 Road Runner stock with front disk, rear drum brakes. Honestly, they stop pretty nicely that way. If you are making a street car my first suggestion would be just to leave them alone - they'll be fine. If you plan to race it on t rack, then that is another story...

If you do want to convert to rear disks, you probably need the 15" rims. 15" rims will just bolt on - no other modifications needed.

Your braking is mostly at the front anyway. Leave the back alone and just put new shoes, wheel cylinders and adjust them properly and they will do the job. I converted my '67 Coronet 500 to front disc and did as I suggested with the back.
 
If you are staying with the small block you can get away with using an 8 1/4 rear. You might want to see if there were any stock jeep or dodge van applications for rear disc and 14" wheels. Chrysler used essentially the same rear up until 1996. You'll probably have to weld on new perches but who knows.
 
Hunt up an axle chart...maybe on " My Mopar" web page. See what all had the width and 14" wheels...
 
Jeep "KJ" Libertys all had 8.25 rear disc axles with 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern. A 15" wheel should clear but can't say about a 14" . Now, this is a direct bolt on for XJ Cherokee 8.25 drum rears, but I do not know if that applies to pre-97 housings. Some of what I am reading says yes but there's no guarantee.

It might be worth digging around on FABO.
 
I have been racking my brain t remember where I saw a list of cars and trucks rear axles with their widths and all...
 
It sounds like the Liberty setup is a fairly easy swap and will work on the older housings so he shouldn't have to change out the whole axle, although the newer style is stronger and I believe came in 3.55 and 3.73 ratios.

You can also swap in a 5spd from an early dakota. And to be honest, a small block, EFI, four wheel disc and a 5spd wouldn't be a bad car to drive.
