Edlebrock Power packages

Chrysler says they only made 280hp. Chrysler admits to over rating the 383's. see if you can find the October 1967 hot rod magazine article where Chrysler gives edelbrock a 383 to dyno test. look at the mopar engine manuals for real net horsepower. everything falls back to 280hp.
I've never heard this before?
This article shows differently, and a 67 383 is different from a 69.

Note that with headers, big carb and an aftermarket intake over 400 HP and 433 ft*lbs of torque with a stock cam.
But they did use hypereutectic pistons, which is what I have in mine.

383's respond well to rpm since it's a short stroke engine....well, it's not all that short but it's not all that long either so you can call it a medium stroke engine :D I've had pretty good results with them over the years but usually advance the cam if it's going to be used for street duty. Heck, they ran pretty good back in the day with just the addition of a decent intake and headers but if you're looking for low rpm grunt, go with a longer stroke engine but if you're looking for mid to low 14's with a very mild 383 that's wearing stock heads, a decent dual plane intake and exhaust, that'll be pretty easy in a 3600 lb car with 3.23 gears.

We used the Edelbrock power package on my buddies Pontiac 455 in his 68' Lemans are were pleased with the results. Went 13:20''s and we sprayed it into the 11's. Then we were asked to leave for going to fast with no roll bar.

Good results. I was going to go with it until I read the heads will not work with my headers. I'm now having Hughes engines put a package together for me.

The 455 might be reasonably comparable to the 440, certainly not a 383 for the reasons previously mentioned.

From Ma Mopar. If you dig up old track tests and use a reasonable mph/power calculator, it supports the numbers.
