Has anyone used one of these for their cars. Its a u joint that replaces the bottom part of steering shaft?
Worth the extra work?
Where and how do i get it done?
I have a manual steering box. How many spline is a manual box?
Thanks

My opinion is do not bother.
The steering coupler can be rebuilt or replaced and they give little trouble.

I like the I joints better, BUT, the factory coupler can be rebuilt and the “clamp” is reproduced to keep the top sealed. So it’s really a toss up.

The thing I always wondered about when useing a universal joint is there isn't any give with body twisting. Ma made the coupler to move in and out a bit.

The problem is the column, it takes a bit of force to compress. That’s why I like Ididit or Flaming River columns, a slip double d shaft, no worries.

To use anything else other than standard coupler to join the steering shaft you would need to machine the steering column shaft. Steering box has a spline but the column shaft would need a spline or D machined in it. All good if the column is in bits and you know a machinist.

You can get a u joint that is pinned, usually a 5/16 roll pin.

Rick Ehrenberg pointed this out, the factory pot joint allows some movement where the u-joint doesn't.

Rick doesn’t like ANYTHING non Mopar!
