What The Hell Is Craigslist Comin' To?

I have a 2002 Malibu with 118k on both Craigslist and Facebook marketplace right now. It has been ridiculous on Facebook with ridiculous offers and trades and the constant "Is this available?" even though It says in the ad its available if still listed. Craigslist not so bad. Several no shows all week. I am amazed not one person has come to look yet. People can't even bother to read the ad!
This is the problem I'm having selling a pt cruiser, yeah it's a PT cruiser, but it's cheap! Just getting the same response

I wonder if people do fall for it or if someone is selling a How To book on how they did it and people just have delusions of success. Kind of like the Barkers that used to work the fairs. I think the stupid people are the ones that try the scam.
I always get into conversations with people about "scams", cause I want to know as much as I can to not get scammed

The majority have NO idea of the scams

I would find it hard to not to see the scams if you have one ounce of common sense. Sure some are clever and plausible, but many are outright stupid.

just because you tell the scammers not to reply doesn't make it so.

No one, NO ONE is getting my phone number via craigslist.

IDK why people don't understand their protected, temporary email relay.

You will still get scam attempts but they will stop when the ad comes down, not so if you give our your real email or phone number.

There are many legit buyers and sellers on CL that I don't want having my phone number.

The fake cashier's check, and PayPal ones are pretty tricky, if you've never delt with that stuff. I could see the average person getting conned out of a car with PayPal, it's rampent on Facebook now, Mopar parts sites included

I got a text once that said " I can have a cahiers check ready today for your item, I agree on the price"
When the ad said cash only. yes, those seem obvious, especially when they ask no questions

Yeah I guess you are right, I retract my statement. For someone who doesn't sell (or buy) often I can see how easily would be to fall for some of it. I have to admit that I have come close once or twice for falling for something, once I had someone said they were willing to buy something from but wanted to use PayPal; I use PayPal all the time so I was about to agree but then decided to google it and see if there were any scams like this and lo and behold there were. Something to do with them going through the motions, then going back to PP and claiming you didn't deliver and getting PP to refund money they never spent and you never got.

Yep, I've heard of scammers buying cars across state lines, then claiming through PayPal, they never got the car. Scary AND Crazy

Here in SoCal it was the Recycler that had the best action. Free to list ad's and about $0.89 a week to buy the damn thing. I bought and sold many cars with it. Good times!

I personally find it odd that some sellers can't seem to tell the difference between-

"I have a check for your item and agree on price"

and

"I'm interested in your Super Bee. I had a 70 Bee back in the 90's. Looks like there's a little rust in the rear window corners. That's pretty common. How's the trunk floor? What is a good time and/or day to come see it?"

I have a friend who has been selling cars on Craigslist forever, and he said that it is of utmost importance to put your phone number in. His reasoning, is that someone looking for a car wants to talk to someone right now

For the brief time that I was a car dealer, they had a saying. "The car that was looked at today, was looked at by someone else yesterday, and will be sold by tomorrow"! This still rings true today!
