I thought it was a Pantera when I first saw it at MCACN yesterday.
 
Apparently the pantera was one of the reason why this beauty never saw real production beautiful car.

That's a shame. Both cars were showcased in 1970, it isn't like the AMX/3 came out later and could be called a copy. Impending bumper regulations were part of the decision too. Chassis engineering was helped along by BMW, who said that at 160 mph the AMX/3 was the most neutral handling car they had tested. It topped out at 170 mph. at Monza.
