If you're thinking of doing overlays on 71-74 gauges...don't

I had my dash out so got some "premium dash decals" and elected to redo the faces like I did on my '70, they came out great, this time not so much :-(

Problem is the 3rd Gen's housings are concave unlike the flat 68-70 faces and decal "warps" on the edges. Knew there was trouble as soon as I got it on. waited a few days and used a hair dryer...still unsat

Unfortunately guy I got them from offered no assistance or refund

Well, I do like the bouncy girl with the ponytail...

Mine turned out great I don't remember what I did hear maybe?

Bouncy girl is kinda cute....does she know how to freshen up the gauges......

Bouncy girl with sassygrass green undies!

I hope Bouncy shows up for the next Olympics.....:D

Back to the decals: You can use a super fine tipped Xacto blade to just barely perforate (tiny hole) to let the trapped air out. I work with large format adhesive vinyl graphics at my work. Another trick is to spray the surface with soapy water first, then use a heat gun to dry up any bubbles with trapped moisture. At this stage; I'd be looking at an Xacto to gently probe the bubbles (but, don't cut too deep to leave a noticeable hole). Having a plastic squeegee or credit card can help smooth things as you slowly apply the adhesive. Clean, dust free surfaces can also help.

It turned out nice! I'm considering updating some of my vehicles interiors but, haven't had any actual dash components come out from any cars - just yet.

Sorry to hear that. I did my 67 Barracuda gauges with white and they came out great. I think you will be very happy getting them professionally done. Who ever does the graveyard cars dashes does a really nice job.

Great tip Jax..if it was air bubbles, it not, its excess decal. If it was flat that would be a good fix but its concave

AKcharger: I (at first) thought this was standard bubbling, but you’re right about this being excess material. I’m candidly not sure of a better solution but, might be able to cut a thin straight line from the center and overlap a portion to remove unwanted slack. Either way: I like the end result and, understand better that you were really given a badly executed/sized decal from the get go.
