The 440 in my pickup has started smoking after startup. It quits smoking after a couple of minutes. Blue oil smoke. Hard throttle after warm up, no smoke. If it's driven frequently, no smoke. If it sits for a few days, smoke. Is there something I should check other than valve stem seals?

Sounds like that to me! How many miles are on it and what weight oil are you using in it?

If your valve stem seals are all broken and in pieces I'd consider pulling the oil pan and cleaning the pump pick up. My 318 had never had them changed when it came to me and they wound up in the pan and completely clogged the oil pump pick up.
Good luck

Value seals a usually have a characteristic of a quick smoke burst and it doesn’t take a warm up cycle to go away. Usually. You may have rings that are stuck or valve guides that are out of tolerance. Point is, there may be other things to look at depending on the age of the engine.

Had a 69 Dodge pickup with a teen that would smoke after it warmed up but most of the smoke happened while idling. Fixed it with 3 cans (yup, cans back then) of STP fixed it :D :D :D
