1972 challenger converted to 1970 ... VALUE HELP!!!

hey guys ,there's a challenger down here which is a 1972 car but has been converted to a 1970 challenger. all professional work . 440 6 pack engine , serpentine belt drive , 4 speed manual ,PS , PB the lot . cars in very good condition .... how much do you think its worth guys? i know its worth whatever im willing to pay/afford . just want to know how much you guys would offer

we could use more details like what the car originally was,a 340,318,slant 6 car etc etc.
Vin/data tag pics would help.
has the car been gone thru from top to bottom?
is the suspension new?

as a guesstimate,going off those assumptions,id say its a 40k car,
maybe more maybe less depending on what shape its really in.
im interested to see what the purists value it at.

Boy, I am not up on E Body prices at all. I think the big question is how good of a restoration it had. Rust free, new metal, great paint, good running, visual appealing. Check it over thoroughly for any signs of cutting corners. Those pics aren't very good. Have you seen it in person? I am not a fan of the billet aluminum on the pulleys.

And for a clone car, I would say value for whatever it started life as plus the parts cost of the 440-6. Six pack setup is $2500+ easily which I would add.

I would say $30,000 -$ 35,000. Real deal six pack cars are going for $70,000 plus. That's assuming it is a nice clean restoration.

I have 2 E bodies and spend a lot of time between here and some E body forums; That said I would say that assuming it runs, doesn't have any major problems that it is a $30-$40k car. The fact that it has been converted isn't going to hurt it all that much in the sense that it isn't going to draw stock BB 70 prices in a similar condition which would be $40k plus depending on options and condition. I would say however that it needs to be gone over very carefully, converting from a 72 to a 70 isn't magic or super hard but it can be done very badly as well. Same deal with the BB and 4 speed installation, look at the torsion bars, 4 speed linkage and rear end. It was most likely a 318 car or perhaps a 340 car, either way, the stock T bars are thinner than would be used on a BB, a proper conversion would have upgraded them. If the car was not an original 4 speed, see if the Z bar was installed correctly (assuming it has mechanical linkage). Check to see what if is has a suregrip rearend (posi) or not, this isn't a deal breaker but could be an indicator if this car was made to flip or built to what someone wanted.

I'd say it's all around a good thing 72's arn't worth much .
I would say the 30-40 k range is where most are at as I was thinking right in the middle at $35000 ! But.... Keep in mind once that car gets some use on it starts to fall apart ECT. It won't hold it's value nor will it increase any past where you start! So if it's I want this can't afford a real one don't want to build something great this is a home run but you could buy a very nice 72 and have it changed to look like said car for less ! It better be dang nice

Price a junk E. Body. Price AMD sheet metal. Price a paint job. Any body that thinks that will only run $20-25K is in la la land. If it's the car you want. If is a nice piece. It's worth a min of $35k all day. Who cares if it's a clone?

the 1972 to 1970 conversion was done professionally back in the states before it was shipped

If you pay 35k for that car,you will never get your money back. It is a modified 72,price it as such. I say 25k tops!

Well I would say try and find a nice BB 4 spd Ebody of any kind for $25K... The Ebody crowd perfer the 70 - 71 Challenger over the 72-74 variants and many will willing pay vastly less for one that looks the part. Think about, less to worry about, if you wreck it you just rebuild it and you are not worried about provenance or originality. Its work $30K + all day long if it is as decent as it looks.

Perhaps not but many are, saw a guy on one of the E body forums who sold his 73 Cuda for $42ish, it was a nice car but I would not have thought anyone would spend that. Many more 72-74 cars are going for the mid to high 30's with the 70-71's in the mid to high 40's.

Bought a 73 Rallye, replaced quarters, trunk, extensions, wheel wells, floors, trunk lid, fenders, and did rust repair on the other panels. Jammed it in for top banana, rebuilt suspension, swapped in a 360 and 518 - redid the brakes, exhaust, etc - primed and blocked it and was ready for paint -- sold it for $12,500 --

I don't see this car being $35K - - But that's my opinion.

People that intend to get a decent return when they sell.

It will sell for what the buyer will spend. Value is a subjective thing obviously, personally I find it very hard to accept some of the prices for any of this stuff these days. Everyone wants top dollar when they are selling and bottom dollar when buying (me included), but it has gotten a bit out of control I think.
