which paint to use

Hi All,
I'm just finishing up the body work on my 71 shell and I'm ready to paint the interior, trunk, engine bay and undercarriage before I start assembly. I had everything blasted and put a coat of Eastwood epoxy primer on it before starting the work. I'll most likely re-shoot the primer to cover all the repaired areas.
My question is what paint to use (urethane, enamel, lacquer, etc). The car was originally B7 blue both interior and exterior and I'd like to go back to that color.

What are you planning on using for the exterior? I would use either acrylic urethane or base-clear. I would have it all mixed at once so everything you spray is from the same batch and matches. Only activate enough to shoot what you need at a time.

I would use PPG BC/CC Urethane on everything. Have three gallons mixed! You'll need 1-1/2 gallons to paint
the trunk interior, interior, engine compartment, and underside. Don't forget front wheel wells! All of the
body panels need painting on the inside also. You'll have a gallon left for the exterior body. PPG has
the best choices of colors for Mopars, and is a quality paint.

Thanks, would you clear coat the interior and bottom?

With BC/CC paint, you have to clearcoat it. The Basecoat goes on looking semi-flat.
you need to put clear on for depth and shine. You can use single stage for the interior
and underneath, but it's a little trickier to put on without running if you are inexperienced.

Base/clear is more forgiving. Your can spray color until your are happy. You can sand imperfections between color coats and not commit to clearing until the color looks the way you want it. Once the first coat of clear is on, you are committed until it hardens. But runs or sags in a trunk and bottom can be harder to see than a single stage paint if you do not repair them. If you have dry areas (not wet and shiny) you can add an additional coat of clear within a certain time frame (flash time) to ensure coverage.

Thanks for the tips, but for the moment I'm more concerned with getting the undercarriage, engine bay, inside the trunk and interior painted. I won't have to worry about the exterior for a few months yet.

When you open the hood, you want the color to match and be as glossy as the body, right?
When you open the trunk, you want the color to match and be as glossy too?
Are you going to paint the undercarriage and then undercoat the whole thing? if so,
you could paint the underneath with single stage, but you won't be saving anything.
The interior gets covered up so who cares? You just want to paint it to stop rust.

If going base/clear I like Deltron/PPG s Omni Plus line for that work. Save a few bucks and its got a good color match with their DBC line when your ready for the exterior.
Just use a fast activated production style clear for those areas that do not live in the sun.
