I'm looking at a local car tomorrow. Owner giving up on a resto. The shell is on a rotisserie that comes with the sale. Its a 69 R/T with nice fender tag and broadcast sheet. Spring Green car F6. Non original drivetrain 440 auto. Not sure if its column shift or not. All parts come with the car but I'm assuming most needing restoration. Car is totally disassembled but looks like all the metal work is done. Its currently in primer. Any idea on a number? I tossed out 15K before even looking at it.

Tom

I agree with the 15k.
Especially if the engine and transmission are turn key.

Is this 1992 all over again? You guys are way low, the owner may get out his shotgun.

30K easily. LOOK at that body. With nice tag and sheet. F6 is a great color for those cars.

thanks for opinions. Keep em coming. Big thing is I know how much these cars are to finish. I need to get in as low as I can. He mentioned 25k. I mentioned 15k. I didn't upset him enough not to meet me tomorrow to take a look. If it was painted I would say 30K easy. Not painted and non numbers. Needing everthing redone.

Not fair to waste anybodys time if the numbers are to far apart. I"m only looking because I said 15 and he said 25. Maybe we can go halfway to 20

I should also mention that he has owned the car for 40 years and was his daily driver for the first ten. Then parked when it started having mechanical problems.

if its all there I would pay 20 no problem, thats just me. Bodies done alone go for 20-25 all day long

Sounds like a nice guy, at least not someone only out to make money.

It's not fair to toss around numbers without all the details.

I agree. I think its best to look at the car and then see.
Maybe you can really meet right at 20k which depending on the exact condition might be a good deal for both of you.

I agree with the others, hard to put an exact number on the car with unknown condition of the rest of the parts. Metal work is expensive and so is paint, but I'd want pics of the metal work to verify that it was done properly, or you could end up with more trouble down road.

But 20K for a finished shell and all the parts to put back together seems like a fair deal for both parties.

At some point in the future - all these cars will come down in value. The car ISN'T done now, so between 15 and 25 sounds like a good starting point. Whenever I see cars like this i wonder - where's all the hardware? How much does an entire car worth of reproduction hardware cost if it isn't there?

Proper nuts, bolts, clips and others small parts can cost a small fortune to track down and acquire if lost during the disassembly and moving of the parts over the years. I bought an entire 4dr parts car just for those small pieces when I was restoring my 68 Coronet 500 convertible years ago, paid $500 for the car and it must have saved me at least a $1000 or more just in the small parts alone.

I agree with you guys. I always used to pay full asking price for all of my projects. Thinking that its unfair to try and talk down a seller. But what I noticed is most sellers leave out some pretty important details and most sellers say there project is complete but in reality its always missing so much stuff. I'm not a flipper so I end up biting the cost and buying so many knew parts to replace what is either missing or non restorable.

Why do you think so?

My kids, the neighbor's kids, young adults in their 20's. Most couldn't care less about any of these cars or what it takes to restore/occasionally drive/ or maintain them. My Charger isn't restored, isn't super pretty, unusual color - T3 Light Bronze. Goes under the radar.

I just googled up your town. Not too far from me - I want to see what Speed Raceway and Axe Throwing is all about. Sound like a no alcohol place.

:rofl::rofl:

Wow, go for it. I hope you can get it for that. But, I think you will have to add at least 5K more on.
Good Luck!

Just beware: Really good primer work can make really bad body work look really good. Your 15K doesn't sound off base to me. The work that is going to show can get very expensive very fast. Interior and exterior. Good luck with the negotiations!

Just check the local ebay etc n see what there asking n getting for something you have to start from scratch, for 25 grand you are allready have half the battle done. That car is worth 25 g all day long n than some, its a true R/T Charger with fender tag n build sheet. If you snooze you will loose a good deal,if it was me i wouldnt nickle n dime to much
