Three contractors are bidding to fix a broken fence at the Chicago's O'Hare Airport.

One is from Chicago, another is from Kentucky, and the third is from New Orleans. All three go with a City Hall official to examine the fence.

The New Orleans contractor takes out a tape measure and does some measuring, then works some figures with a pencil.

"Well," he says, "I figure the job will run about $9,000. That's $4,000 for materials, $4,000 for my crew and $1,000 profit for me."

The Kentucky contractor also does some measuring and figuring, then says, "I can do this job for $7,000. That's $3,000 for materials, $3,000 for my crew and $1,000 profit for me."

The Chicago contractor doesn't measure or figure, but leans over to the official from Chicago's Streets and Sanitation Department and whispers, "$27,000."

The official, incredulous, says, "You didn't even measure like the other guys. How did you come up with such a high figure? ”

"The Chicago contractor whispers back, "$10,000 for me, $10,000 for you, and we hire the guy from Kentucky to fix the fence."

"Done!" replies the city official.

And that, my friends, is how things work in Chicago. No wonder the city is bankrupt.

Whee the hell is all of the toll money going? Must be million$ every day.

Seems like Chicago style negotiation is catching on .... the whole country is going bankrupt....

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Former Chicago Alderman Willie Cochran was sentenced to one year and one day in prison Monday morning.

Cochran, elected to the City Council in 2007, admitted to taking $14,000 from a 20th Ward charity he founded to help seniors and children. Prosecutors said he used the money to pay for his daughter's tuition, home expenses and gambling at an Indiana casino.

"It was an unorthodox way of doing things but it is not something that I would say is corrupt," Cochran said.

“Since sending the previous aldermen to jail has not done anything to curb Chicago’s tidal wave of aldermanic corruption cases, there is no reason to think that sending Mr. Cochran to jail will,” attorney Christopher Grohman wrote in a recent court filing. Exhibit A, according to Grohman, is the still-unfolding corruption probe that has ensnared Burke and Solis.

I believe I've heard it reported that Cochran is the 30th alderman to be convicted and jailed. Ed Burke (longest running alderman) will soon be no. 31. Chicago political corruption is second to none.

I didn’t live in Chicago, I was 50 miles north, right on the state line and Lake Michigan. I finally moved 2 1/2 years ago. I’ve got to say the most corrupt state in the union! I still think it will be the first state to file bankruptcy. Our property taxes were just under 3 times what I’m paying in Gilbert Az. for double the value and size house here. I lived there most of my life less a 10 year stint in Wisconsin, taxes there were half just across the state line, for 4 acres and 1800 sq ft of house. You can keep Illinois, I wouldn’t live there again for any reason!

Last house I looked at in Illinois was about 2500 sq ft and on an acre, $9900 a year in property taxes. Bought my house in Indiana with more sq ft, an acre lot and taxes are $2300. **** Illinois

Misread the title as:

Chicago is a Nutcase

( but it still made sense . . . )

She is a complete bumbling fool...does not need a costume. Rome is burning and she acts like a child...makes me nauseous to even see that twit.
Yes this state is jacked... I just SMH any more.

My daughter recently got the green light from her employer to live anywhere in the country and continue to work from home. She's most likely out of there when her lease is up in April. It's a real shame. She moved into a really nice apartment in the loop this past April and really hasn't been able to enjoy it. That whole area is probably ruined for years to come.

sad to say you are correct. It should be a good time for any young person to live in a big city for a few yrs. Sure in the heck not now. I have friends their son lives in river city apartments in south loop, works a few blocks away. once his lease is up, he is out. He is already looking for another job, which he is a hard working smart kid. but the bs of the riots and looting really unfortunately opened his eyes. As a lot of people had their eyes opened.
Its just sad, that town was a lot of fun 30 yrs ago. You knew what neighborhoods to stay away from, and no one really bothered you. Different story now... and Beetlejuice has no flipping clue

I just moved out or River City, fortunately it flooded so I hadn't paid rent since April while I work for home in TX. Chicago is a shithole.

I used to commute into West Chicago from Rockford. That was a terrifying drive in the winter. I used the like the Food tho' The food was incredible in Chicago.
