Good thing you got Billy, ‘cause in some parts of this great country, hefting, mixing, pouring, then finishing a concrete slab like that - well it’s almost a marriage proposal.

I told my wife there’s a woman on the forum that’s re-sheathing her deck and hefting and pouring concrete. She says bullsh*t, then looks here and tells me “don’t be getting any ideas”.

Truth as always, I only hefted one 80-pound bag and he picked up the other 17. I mixed all but a couple bags but Billy dumped the wheelbarrow out every time. When he deposited the last bag, he bailed for the bed and his Icy Hot so I leveled and finished it with a 1x1 back and forth about a dozen times, sloughing off the excess.

After a couple hours he was asleep. I found little Speck tracks across the entire five foot slab [insert paw prints emojis sadly missing from FBBO] ... and got rid of most by lightly pulling my broom across the entire thing. It left a fantastic slightly ridged finish that should easily shed water and not be the least bit slippery.

I didn't get Friday "off," or even get any shop time thanks to my resident Slave Driver.

Each seam is getting reinforced from the underside with cut offs between the original rafters so it's kind of slow going, but three sheets are in place up on top now. It was supposed to rain overnight so they and the landing got a coat of Thompson's Water Seal yesterday evening.

If any of you are serious wood workers, check out a neat $60 invention for toenailing boards called a Kreg Tool. It's an adjustable fixture that clamps onto the board and guides the included drill bit at the perfect angle. Way cool!!

Today there's only seven sheets of plywood left until the original structure and its new 16' extension toward the yard are sheathed.
