i found a black 4 speed 400 4 rallye charger on eBay. .guy says se roof is original which is bs. Also claims dealer installed a 68 440 6 pack motor. More bs. Fender tag proves it was a painted black roof without a vinyl top. Also he didn't post pictures of the rear interior panels which would show window crank handles im sure for the quarter windows which a se roof car would not have. It's weird these rare cars still have this much uneducated bs surrounding them!

What is very rare is the fact that a 400 4 barrel car got factory ac. .i didn't think the was possible on a big block 4 speed? Both my 4 speed rallyes are non ac

My 73 Rallye 400 4 speed has factory air. That is the reason I am saving it from the scrapper. That black one above does not have the A57 code designating it a Rallye. It is actually an SE car.

My opinion is that it's a nice SE. Someone added the hood and side stripes after it left the factory. IMHO

It's not an se. .lynch road cars usually did not get the a57 code. .an se would have a vin that started with wp29

It is definitely 100 percent a rallye car according to the vin and fender tag options

As stated in the other thread, A57 is on the build sheet. The car is either a VIN & tag swap onto an SE, or it's a WH Rallye with an SE top added. Easy to change to SE top if you have a parts car.

It makes more sense to be a vin swap.

Definitelly! If you ask me is a VIN swap... everywhere... door change with the decal, dash frame change, fender tag... will need to check the stamping VINs!!! Dunno who would become a Rallye into an SE, where you can get SEs everywhere and just change engine and add stripes and sway bar at cheaper cost than become a Hardtop into an SE.

I'd agree based on the fender tag. The V21 option alone was hood treatment for the Rallye.

It is a nice looking car but I'd agree, there is a lot of fishy things with this car.

This is a nice local car. I have never talked to the guy about it, but I feel sure the side stripes were added. I don't remember ever seeing any SE Chargers with the side stripes back when the cars were newer and more common. I have owned a couple of 3rd gen Chargers, and been a Mopar fan since I was a kid in the early 70s.

Yep no SE chargers ever got the black sidestripe from the factory. .i have a red SE with a black sidestripe but I added it just to break up all the red and because I thought it looked cool! However tho, I have seen a dodge stripe option sheet that the dealers had and it appears that the v6r sidestripe was available on ALL Charger models for an additional cost. If an SE ever was ordered with that, it would be a museum piece!

Interesting documentation, 400sforever. Good info. I see the hood treatment was listed as not available on the Charger SE, which adds to the questions in this thread...

Ya and I've read somewhere that power bulge hoods weren't optional on SE chargers but I cant find that at the moment

Gold and red Rallye stripes were optional on SEs but just on 74s not on 73s. Well, On 73 the gold stripe didn't even exist LOL ( same as copper ).

That green car never could get rallye stripe since it's a 73 ( black stripe wasn't option anyway for 74 SEs either )

I emailed the guy, he had no idea any VIN stampings on the core support or cowl. He send a pic of the transmission casting number rather than the VIN and said the VIN matched the number stamped in the trunk

Never seen a VIN stamped in the trunk of a 73
