My sister is a professional photographer. She took the pictures below back in 1979 and recently contacted me and said she ran across the negatives when she was a senior in High School (she has never thrown any negative or image away in her life). She asked if I wanted them, the short response was Hell Yes! She was still a novice photographer back then and apologizes for the composition.
She sent scans of the original negatives which are massive in file size. The images below are actually screen shots of the images she sent me because the file size is so massive.
The Bird is mine and the Charger is/was a good friend of mine. He sold it several years ago. Supposedly an original 6 Pack car but he ran a single 4 on it because he said he could never get the 6 Pack to run right. (We were 17 year old shade tree mechanics). Would love to know where it ended up. Somebody is lucky. My car was a 383, 60 over, big Isky cam, 4 speed. The Charger was basically stock, Auto (I think).
My home town was predominantly Chevy and Ford. The Mopars were these two cars and a guy with a 70' 440 Cuda. We ran these cars extremely hard every Friday and Saturday night and any other time we could. We had 2 illegal strips set up outside of town. Whenever we noticed the cruise had dropped off we would check the strips to see if something was up. Nobody would ever tell us because when the three Mopar Big Blocks came rumbling in, 95% of the Chevys and all of the Fords left.
For what it's worth my bored 383 could handle the stock Charger easy but the Cuda and I had a few exciting drags. I apologize for the ~72' buckets in my car. Bench seats weren't cool back then. The bench was put back in a year later and will remain. In fact I just welded up the holes I bored in the floor to make the buckets fit, a couple of months ago.
In looking at these the Charger was running radials on front and biased plies on the rear (I think). Not a good idea, again, we were 17.
Enjoy.
