Is this an original starter from my 69 GTX?

Correct..YES, original probably doubtful. What part # and casting date is on it?

Looks like it just needs a quick cleaning compared to mine that I totally refurbished.

Clean it up and take close up pictures of any numbers. Need build date of your car.

These have stamped dates on the black part. That’ll be your date code. Part number stamped too. Cast part number on the snout along with the year and dots making up the month.

The part number is 4091950. Date stamp right below looks like 707 or 797. I would expect it to be two digit week code then 1 did fit for the year. That isn’t the case with that one. 52 would be the highest number. Could be MMDDY format. The cast starburst is 66 or 68? Can’t see it clearly.

Production date of my car is 808 (August 8th)
Does this confirm anything?

Can you get better pictures of the casting date circle and the stamp under the part number stamp?

Best I can get.
I think there number is more like 307? Not sure if it's a 3 though for sure.
The circle date seems like 68 backward. Maybe it says 98?

Much better!
307 - 30th week of 67, 77, 87?
Cast burst looks like 86 to me?
Those two don’t add up for me for 67. The cast date should be 67 to match the stamp of its the 30th week of 67. Either way, I’m not seeing this as original to the car. Part number for the starter is (edit - NOT) fine but date codes don’t work IMO.
Maybe someone else will chime in. Find one with dates from the late 60’s (confirmed) and see what they look like to compare.

I take that back about the part number. Looks like that part number was introduced in 75. Looks like a replacement starter from the 80’s.

From MMC Detroit:

When dealing with the original starters, there were mainly 2 types of starters used from 1962-1987 for the trucks and cars. These were gear reduction type starters. There was a shorter starter 1.5hp part #2875560 and casting #2875553. A 1.3hp short starter was also used in 1973. Its part # 3656650. In 1973 another short starter was 1.5hp part# 3656575 which was a later production date. The second type of starter was the larger starters which were .5 to and 1 inch longer than the 1.5hp starter. They were 1.8hp and introduced in 1975. These part numbers were #3755250, 4091950, and more.

86 to me also and some 4XXXXXX part numbers also bet it is a rebuild.

Ok I seemed to find similar.
It seems like many from that date included a Chrysler logo by the date circle and the word Chrysler above the part number on the black housing.
Next I'll ask the Gramps if he has the original starter.
Failing that, I keep this starter and forget the whole thing

If it works use it until you fine a dated one at a swap meet somewhere.

Pretty much!
I won't need for at least 2 years....or longer.... So I'll leave it on the shelf for now. Gramps may have it so I'll check there too.
Thanks guys!
